So many anti-dentites back in the 80s and 90s.
Like jesus, I’m undecided if this is supposed to be a corporal punishment joke or a sexual abuse joke. The punchline doesn’t even land; why would breaking a lamp necessitate a dental exam?
The joke is literally just “everyone hates dentist appointments, therefore a dentist could use it as punishment for his son”. I really don’t think the overtones were meant to go deeper than that.
He was playing baseball inside and broke the lamp. A standard trope for a child doing something wrong and getting punished. His father is a dentist. Going to the dentist is torturous (or so the commonly agreed joke goes) so that’s the punishment doled out to him.
