  • The ADHD.

    Hyperfocus makes me ramble. I’ve also dedicated an enormous amount of time to an abundance of different “talents” and skills.

    It can make people around me feel like “normies”, which is not a self-compliment but an admission of social unawareness.

    I’ve made a concerted effort over the last decade to remind myself to listen intently when people are talking and be aware of my potential to monopolize a conversation. I feel like it’s helped a lot. Connecting with people is important to my mental health. Its always been difficult but its getting easier as I grow older and pay attention to these things.




  • I’d spend 100M in a month easily. Especially after I’ve bankrolled GrapheneOS, Ladybird and all my favourite FOSS projects. They also didn’t say anything about charity which IMO isn’t gifting. Once I feel like I’ve sufficiently contributed to society I’d buy a 50ft sailboat, pimp the shit out of it with solar and fuck off forever.

    With the billion I’d establish a fund that pays out monthly to any projects I deem worthy and funds all food banks in my local area indefinitely.


  • I’m not here to troubleshoot this issue. I don’t have the technical skill or understanding of this platform to do so.

    I’m sure I’m not the only one with a working banking app. We don’t all use mainstream banks, right? There are options and I’m sure I’m not alone in this.

    Thanks for insinuating I’m a liar though. That’s nice.

    I’m on a Pixel 8 with GrapheneOS and a working banking app with no special fuckery because I genuinely don’t know enough about android to deviate from what’s offered in the stock Graphene experience other than using the FUTO keyboard and customizing basic settings just like everyone else.




  • AFAIK, Heilung shouldn’t be considered traditional music. Many elements of their music are borrowed from unrelated cultures. Throat singing for example is not a Scandinavian tradition. They also use Hindu instruments in their compositions. Heilung themselves don’t even describe their music as traditional, yet they have some rabid fans that try to shoehorn their work into scandinavian tradition, muddying the historical waters for anyone unfamiliar with scandinavian tradition. Cool band, but yeah. Odd dynamic going on here.

    Still, I bet a collaboration would be cool.


  • I’m not using Linux in any enterprise capacity, but the compatibility improvements I’ve seen since the last time I tried out a distro for fun are immense.

    So immense infact that I’m migrating all my home studio and gaming stuff over to Linux and making it my official daily driver via Nobara.

    I’m honestly amazed by how well music production software and hardware works on Linux now. I’m so relieved because I thought this whole Windows enshittification thing was just another part of my life where I seemingly have no control over being made into a product and having all of my data sold constantly.

    A recent migration to GrapheneOS and this new discovery of Linux’s amazing capabilities for my use case are such a breath of fresh air. I now have the choice to reject the exploitative practices of these tech companies that have zero respect for people and that makes me happy.

    The more we use and recommend Linux the more of a chance we get of first party support in the future!






  • It just doesn’t allow you to use the Android Device Policy work profile which makes it so you can’t log into Slack for work (for example) if it depends on the work policy spyware being active on your phone.

    I get that for some people that’s a non-starter but for me who vehemently supports and exercises my Right To Disconnect, not having spyware on my phone for work is a good riddance.




  • We’ll agree to disagree I suppose. The alternatives don’t necessarily have to be FOSS either. A perfect example of a viable alternative to a predatory “industry standard” exists in the audio production world; REAPER.

    When I was in College, Pro Tools was the required software. Pro Tools at the time was a walled garden ecosystem, trapping anyone who sunk their hard earned cash into an environment rife with anti-consumer practices, hardware brand restrictions and invasive DRM.

    It cost me over $600 CAD at the time for a bundle containing a feature-limited copy of Pro Tools and a Digidesign MBox.

    Meanwhile, REAPER’s noncommercial license was $60. That $60 got you a full featured copy of the DAW with support for the next two full version upgrades (which turned out to be nearly a decade of updates). You could also use any hardware interfaces you desired without restriction.

    REAPER also has a free trial that is full-featured. No restrictions at all, even the trial length is unlimited. Why? Because they respect the consumer and trust that if you find value in the software you’ll support their work by paying for a copy. That purchase is one of the best I’ve ever made.

    In my experience, REAPER was equally as capable as Pro Tools or any other DAW on the market at the time. As of now I’d wager it’s the superior product.

    A world where consumers are respected currently exists, its just not in the hands of the corporate world. The best way to make a better future for everyone in the software world is to not put up with anti-consumer practices and engage with companies and developers that respect our time and hard earned cash instead of treating us like cattle.



  • No it was not what many would consider a commercial success. My music is a bit niche, but it was a success in its own right. We had label support (non-financial, basically just printed CDs) for our debut release and more than recouped the cost and if we followed up with releases it likely would have had potential to snowball by re-investing the money into the band. We only released digital and CD digipaks of the album, no merch no extra anything and that gave us more than enough for a second release and then some. I just have no use for the music “industry” as it were. Music is not a means to an end for me, its an outlet and I do it on my terms. I don’t jive with the industrialization of art in general and I certainly don’t want to whittle my relationship with music down to how much money it can make for me. I get it if people wanna commoditize it though. That angle is just not for me.

    Indie artists by and large self produce and a metric ton of them do so to an incredibly high caliber. Big tech Spotify man is not wrong, he’s just an asshole. A leech, if you will.
