  • Not too lazy to read the article, I think its a stupid feature. For decades industries have managed with high skill employees and manual torque wrenches. Somehow logging torque specs in a data base is going to solve problems or being able to remotely access said data base to make sure the tourque setting is correct? How about hire competent people with the right skills and give them the time they need to do a good job. How about having floor supervisors that actually know, and have done the job they’re overseeing to regularly check the torque specs. Boeing QC and safety has been on a downhill slide for decades, right around the time that the merger with McDonnell Douglas happened.

  • Why the fuck does someone need a wrench connected to the internet in the first place?

I went appliance shopping recently and the salesman tried to get me on board with a WiFi connected fridge, his sales pitch was that I’ll get a push notification on my phone when the air or water filter need to be changed, and there’s a camera so if I’m at the store and I can’t remember if I need to buy milk, I can open the camera app and view the inside of my fridge and see my milk level. GTFO, not everything needs to have an app or internet service.

  • ASTS has basically built a cellular phone network in space, low earth orbit. They have patents for their technology, where by their satellites can produce voice and data at 4G and 5G speeds to any off the shelf smartphone. Starlink, Iridium etc all require either special proprietary phones or additional equipment. ASTS business model seems sound, they’re not looking to take over from your current network provider, but to add a complimentary service. So they don’t need to break into the market and steal users, if you’re with AT&T, you’ll stay an AT&T customer, but you’ll have the option to “roam” on ASTS network if you’re in a terrestrial cell dead zone.

    1. There’s a term known as an 80% lower. The lower receiver of an AR style rifle is what’s considered the firearm. By selling an 80% finished product, the seller skirts pretty much all gun regulations as the person isn’t selling a gun, and the buyer has to complete the last 20% of manufacturing which transfers the ownus of the legality onto the buyer/end user. In the USA it is perfectly legal for an individual to manufacturer a gun for their own personal use so long as they are not manufacturing for later sale.

    2. Each country has their own importation rules and regulations. Most likely UK customs will have their own definition of what a firearm is, and will likely not allow an import of finished or partially finished gun parts.

The FGC9 is a 3D printed gun, developed by a German, specifically for people who do not have access to firearm parts. The FGC9 relies entirely of off the shelf hardware store parts and has been tested to fire multiple hundreds and in some cases thousands of rounds accurately before failure.
