I don’t think we need more licenses. OSS license proliferation is bad as it is. IMO, people should do their best to stick with the major licenses: GPL, AGPL, MIT, or Creative Commons if it doesn’t fit the above.

The problem with a tax that you’ve proposed is that it would be nearly impossible to enforce. How would you know which companies are pulling your library?

What I’ve been doing is adding the Commons Clause to my license and that I think helps. I don’t write wildly popular software so I don’t really see people donating or asking to purchase a license.

I personally like the Mozilla model where they donate to various open source projects from a common fund. I’d like to see more stuff like that.

It sort of is by license. Not directly but if you’re using one of the more restrictive licenses like GPL 3, it often doesn’t pass legal review due to many of the copy left provisions.

Most companies simply find a similar library that has a more permissive license. A handful will contact the dev and buy a license.

As much as the MIT license has made code more accessible, its permissiveness is the main reason I don’t use it for my own software, unless I really don’t care for it.

It’s definitely worth learning. I had the damnedest time with docker until I went to a meetup and had someone ELI5 to me. And it wasn’t that I wasn’t technical. I just couldn’t wrap my head around so many layers of extraction.

The guy was very patient with me and helped me get started with docker compose and the rest is history.

If you boil it down, it sort of makes sense. Many of these Republican controlled states are only that way due to gerrymandering. So when a statewide initiative is put on the ballot, it makes sense it would be approved.

If I had to guess, a period show or movie likely doesn’t have smoking in it unless it’s essential to the plot because of the health risks as well as the pain of editing it in post. I know that there are herbal cigarettes that actors can smoke that are not as risky but unless it’s crucial to the shot, I can see directors just not even thinking of it.

Does it actually cover anything? I haven’t looked into it but my knee-jerk reaction is that it’s very simple and doesn’t cover anything important, especially anything having to do with climate change.

That guy is literally, not figuratively, responsible for most of the shitty things that companies do now.

It’s not just lease costs. It’s insurance /Liability, HVAC, cleaning services, toilet paper, med kits…so much money is being spent just to make it possible for people to just sit at a desk and zoom into meetings.

Honestly…I don’t know why boards of directors aren’t screaming for CEOs to drop RTO requirements purely from a profit perspective…unless those board members are also the same landlords of these office buildings.

I think the point is that a scammer may have one or two. But not millions of Gmail addresses.

The last one I encountered was one of the AI tools. I can’t remember which one. They are popping up like fucking Starbucks now.

They required using your Gmail, Outlook, or Discord credentials.

Yeah I saw the Google sheets scraping tool and that looked promising but I don’t want to have to rely on Xpath since it could change.

Right now I’m leaning toward change detector but can’t get the reverse proxy to work.

More and more services are REQUIRING a gmail/outlook/etc. account simply because bots/scammers bombard their services. It’s their cheap captcha.

I’m seeing it more and more and it infuriates me to no end.

Keep in mind that their goal was and continues to be discrediting the democratic process. They are willing to give up short term gains for long term power.

They have, imo, successfully convinced enough people that elections cannot be trusted. It’s why we need more and more people to be election officials but the threat of violence against them is making it challenging.
