KDE Plasma on all my computers and also as desktop mode on Steam Deck. because it supports the latest technologies especially when it comes to graphics (HDR, VRR) also has best support for Wayland and multi-monitors. It looks great out of the box and it has a lot of features out of the box and I do not need to battle with adding some extensions that break with almost every update. KDE Plasma is also the most flexible desktop and I can set the workflow really to fit my desires and I can actually set many options and settings. And despite all these built-in features and configurability it still uses very few system resources and is very fast and smooth. Oh and the KDE community is one of the most welcoming I have met in FOSS world, and they listen to their users instead of the our way or the high way mentality I have so often encountered in GNOME for example. So yeah TLDR KDE Plasma is the one I like the most of all in the industry, even when compared to proprietary closed alternatives.

To early to tell, we will have to wait for it to be released and benchmarked by Phoronix. But judging based on previous Zen5 CPUs and becnhmarks on GNU/Linux it should be very good. But let’s wait and see and also it will depend on how much it will cost and how much each one is willing to spend.

Best to switch to Firefox anyways, or even better privacy enhanced LibreWolf

This project is a custom and independent version of Firefox, with the primary goals of privacy, security and user freedom. Better to use Kubuntu edition, much better desktop and less crap that is nowdays in Ubuntu.

GNU/Linux only, with KDE Plasma for desktop as possible. Using it on work laptop (Kubuntu), home laptop (openSUSE Tumbleweed), PC (openSUSE Tumbleweed, also used for gaming), Steam Deck (Arch-based SteamOS). I don’t use spyware/adware so Windows is out of question for me. Also it is not free as in freedom and opensource.

Yeah I am so glad I switched to GNU/Linux years ago, Have to keep supporting closed OSes at work with our software and with each release they are just getting worse and worse, while GNU/Linux just keeps getting better.

Most of them are C++/Qt there is also a lot of QtQuick/QML code which can do a lot and is very similar to ECMAScript, so maybe that would be a great start for someone coming from webdev.

Couldn’t agree more with this. It was a well worth switch for me too. They had some moment of bullshiting with closed MQA audio format abut have now come to senses and are getting rid of this nonsense and switching to open FLAC for lossless audio also for highest quality.

Ir was my first desktop I encountered when introduced to GNU/Linux and it is actually what made me delay my switch to GNU/Linux since I disliked it so much. back then I did not know there are more desktop options so Iit made me think the whole GNU/Linux is not interesting to me. It was not until a few years later until I was told there are other options and I was shown KDE desktop (not called Plasma yet back then) that I fell in love with GNU/Linux.

Why I did not like GNOME was that it was too limited and limiting and unconfigurable. And I would say nowadays it has gotten even worse while KDE Plasma has improved a lot. I think GNU/Linux would have a lot more success at capturing the desktop OS market if KDE Plasma would be the major and default desktop in all those enterprise distributions. It is just so much better and so flexible you can even turn it to mimic any other desktop or even better customize it to fit your wery own best way of workflow and using computers.
