  • generative AI makes it very easy for anyone to flood the internet with generated text, audio, images, and videos.

And? There’s already way too much data online to read or watch all of it. We could just move to a “watermark” system where everyone takes credit for their contributions. Things without watermarks could just be dismissed, since they have as much authority as an anonymous comment.

  • I just realized something: since most people have no idea what AI is, it could easily be used to scam people. I think that will be it’s main function originally.

Like the average person does not have access to real time stock data. You could make a fake AI program that pretends to be a trading algorithm and makes a ton of pretend money as the mark watches. The data would be 100% real and verifiable, just picked a few seconds after the the fact.

Since most people care a lot about money, this will be some of the first widespread applications of real time AI. Just tricking people out of money.

  • Nah. America had Nazis in the 30s too. We’re immune to the most rabid varieties of fascism and authoritarianism because they don’t produce all the cool products Americans demand.

Americans might be plagued with racism and bigotry, but we’re way too lazy and invested in our own lives for a coup. Literally our bread and circuses are way too good.

  • The Guardian doesn’t really understand some American things. Losing this case will hurt Trump, because his brand is getting away with everything.

Remember when Trump lost the election and the January 6th insurance was crushed? Remember how quiet the news was? No one cared to interview Trump anymore because he was a loser. It was great.

Get ready for him to try and spin it, but it’s not really going to work. The Guardian is staffed by British people, not Americans. They don’t pay as much attention to how Americans think. Just wait for the verdict.

  • It’s not pervasive like that white dude (yes, we know he’s a white guy) suggests, but you can find companies with a hiring preference because they need to balance out their workforce. If you only hire people who look like you because they’re “the only talented people” or “they fit the culture”, you should balance it out with different people.

Basically to have a diverse workforce you can’t leave it up to chance or it won’t happen.

  • It literally was not a slur. You are trying to burnish your progressive bonafides way too hard. Word meanings change over time.

As you mentioned, there was actual slavery happening at the time. Being called a “negro” was the last thing a slave would worry about. They wouldn’t even identify as that, because they would consider themselves Ashanti or Igbo or some other West African ethnic group. It’d be like calling you “North American” (I assume).

Have you never used any of these tools? They’re excellent at doing simple things very fast. But it’s like a word processor in the 90s. It’s just a tool, not the font of all knowledge.

I guess younger people won’t know this, but word processor programs were very impressive when they first came out. They replaced typewriters; a page printed from a printer looked much more professional than even the best typewriters. This lent an air of credibility to anything that was printed from a computer because it was new and expensive.

Think about that now. Do you automatically trust anything that’s just printed on a piece of paper? No, because that’s stupid. Anyone can just print whatever they want. LLMs are like that now. They can just say whatever they want. It’s up to you to make sure it’s true.
