Can you still install extensions in GNOME? I hate the defaults
Can you still install extensions in GNOME? I hate the defaults
You can install the apk from their website, it cannot be found on the Play store. It can block stuff at the DNS level. If you are on iOS then you can also do that and you can enable the extension for Safari.
I have started with PiHole, then played with AdGuard Home and loved it so much that it replaced my PiH. I kept it until I found Technitium, which can do all of those two can do and more as it can also act as an authoritative DNS. I would not recommend this to those not interested to really play around with DNS.
Long story short, I still have AdGuard on my iPhone but only use it with Safari as the dns filtering has been plagued by a bug and just drains my battery. The disconnect app can do that with little configuration to do. For pure DNS you could also get DNSsecure, I can pass you the link for iOS but it also exists on Android and it is open source :) https://apps.apple.com/fr/app/dnsecure/id1533413232?l=en-GB
This allows you to change the DNS of your phone so it will override Google/Apple or your ISP
That is only if you use it on a phone as it kinda runs like a VPN, right? They can’t do this stuff if you only use their DNS
Is the problem of outdated packages still a thing now that you can get them all via Flatpacks?
Concerning the kernel, again, can you always benefit from the latest one? Personally I am starting to appreciate not having to constantly update the OS while at the same time enjoying the latest software. Concerning apt packages, those in the Debian repo will just work like clockwork
Meaning that your distro of choosing comes with most of the stuff bundled in…?
Essentially Linux has today the market share OSX had back in 2005 or something like that. That is kinda encouraging! Now we just need for Microsoft to keep fucking windows up!
I tried both Obsidian and Logseq and… Obsidian is just a pleasure
My threat level aim at reducing passive analytics, not active ones
I can understand the logic but… the web is a horrible place with no adblockers
PiHole is great but eventually moved to AdGuard Home as it is easier to maintain and has lot of features out of the box
In other words it would be better to not block them and try to blend in? Does this count for DNS level blocks? In theory the ad networks will not see me connecting to them
Thank you for the through answer, really put things in perspective
Wayland is better at segmenting each app. On X any app could potentially see/record what happen on the entire screen while on Wayland that requires you do manually grant the rights. Similar to how macOS is requesting you to give each app the possibility to record your screen or not.
Same. The idea is to have a machine to code, not to babysit
Yeah I guess it really comes down to that.
Side question on this, why are people suggesting Debian, a stable but “old” distro, but never mention RHEL / Rocky? They are on par with stability (and quite possibly RHEL wins on it). Did you know that you can get a free licence if you register as a developer?
Is Debian unstable really unstable or is just like… Ubuntu?
This. Go the Ansible way only if you are interested in gaining skills in that domain. It is a must have skill if you want to pivot to devOps
Also the LTS ones?
Thank you!
