  • We have never rejected fanaticism.

The revolution was built on fanatical ideas and ideals of American exceptionalism and where was propaganda to support that.

The civil was started primarily because the wealthy didn’t want to give up free labor (slaves) but a lot of individuals supported it because they felt the big scary northern government was attacking their homes and they had to defend them and their way of life (still, slavery,).

Pretty much every war is sold based on fanaticism. The Spanish American war was wholesale created by yellow journalism. The world wars were a bit different because America was very isolationist then and it needed a push.

Overall America isn’t an exception here. Most humans need to be fanatical to really do big things like war or revolution.

  • It’s a very apt article. There’s only 3 good ways to get Congress to pass legislation with anything approaching quickness:

    1. Massive nationwide, bipartisan support from a crisis (9/11, Patriot Act)
    2. Fucking pay them (most bills that benefit the rich and corpos)
    3. Have it affect most of Congress people directly (pay increases, exempting themselves from finance law)

This would be #3 so it would be expected.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said of the bill, which would invest $35 billion into public-health training, Narcan distribution, extended Medicaid benefits,

Fuck, Onion. That’d be nice, wouldn’t it?

  • For a single mug microwaves are quicker in America. Potentially even for 2 mugs.

BUT in America kitchen appliances have a power limit (usually) of 1,500W. This is usually higher than a standard microwave (1,000W). And since an electric kettle in America is just a heat source in water, it’s very efficient. So if you’re regularly heating multiple mugs worth of water, or just boiling water for cooking often, an electric kettle is definitely better. They are also pretty cheap.

Now in Europe and the UK, electric kettles are faster since they can often be around 3,000W or higher. But that doesn’t mean American kettles are useless. American kettles a way faster than heating water on the stove. And WAAAY faster than heating water on a gas stove.

  • Internet is not a base requirement like water. Without food, water, shelter, you die. Without internet and electricity you are left behind, you don’t die. It should be regulated like electricity

Yes because being homeless and without power will definitely ensure you can stay alive. This whole argument doesn’t make sense. Electricity doesn’t need to be regulated like water because for the most part, there can’t be tainted electricity. But you can still get your water cut off just like power so clearly the government doesn’t ensure you have ready access to it.

Oh and shelter is a base requirement but we still let people die in the streets. And for those people we aren’t supplying them with water: they can drink from what few public fountains exist in parks…if the cops don’t beat them for “loitering”.

No, internet should be a requirement to be provided to everyone like we regulate water and electricity and (used to) telephone service.

You can definitely hear it. You can hear someone on a voice call or talk radio pretty clearly just walking near them.

But this is really asking about the cars you can hear coming down the block that sounds like they’re trying to work out sore muscles with their subwoofers.
