  • Yeah maybe it started out that way for sure, but after so much death people on both sides are starting to consider other options. You can see that in Israel right now, people who are rejecting this narrative of either us or them. Maybe the crazies will always think this way, but over time people will be willing to make concessions. After all what good is it to rule a pile of rubble constantly under attack ?

A half promised land at peace is better than an entire promised land constantly in war economy. It’s not only quality of life we’re talking about. The entirety of the Jewish people is being blemished and shamed by the current actions of Israel.

  • The US as a country is wholly complicit in this genocide. Both their major parties are 100% in support of genocide. Their universities are investing millions in weapons factories that create the tools of the genocide. Their taxpayer dollars go towards directly funding the genocide. This after the 20 years long wars they caused in the middle east with the countless suffering caused by that.

I am disgusted at Israel and the US. Never forget what the US really is. How can any of us from “third world” countries see the US as anything better than the worst that China and Russia have done ? They’re all cut from the same cloth.

  • Speed. High speed trains clock in at 300 km/h, whereas maglev takes you to 600 km/h.

I agree with the above commenter, the EU needs to streamline passenger rights and international connections first, like they did for airtravel, but once that is taken care of, the next step is connecting European capitals on high speed maglev with very few stops.

To give you a sense of what such a transportation system could achieve, you could go from Lisbon to Kiev in 6 hours and a half at 600 km/h. If capitals served as country maglev hubs, we could do away with intra European flights altogether and cut a significant amount of flights to outside of Europe by concentrating the departures.

You could then have a hierarchy of sorts where maglev serves traveling between capitals, high speed between major cities within countries, regional between regions of smaller sparsely populated towns and local trains within cities or between close cities. Ideally if a passenger wanted to travel from a small town into another small town 3000 km away, the service should book all the appropriate hierarchy changes in one ticket.

The issue is that the line would have to be pretty much straight or have very shallow curves, due to the speed, so it would take a TON of land buying. That’s complicated enough as it is without even considering the NIMBYs.

  • From what i read about it, Apple has a walled garden but charges a flat fee for everyone and has no special deals. Everyone pays the same and they make a little money off of the store but also the hardware sold.

Whereas Google has been caught treating certain parties differently, such as Spotify, something called Project Hug, where they gave extra benefits to parties at risk of leaving the play store, among other unequal dealings.

So the crux of the question is not about the monopoly itself, but the fact that Google is treating market players differently and throwing its weight around to influence the market to its advantage.

  • I think we’re the North Sentinelese of the Milky Way and we’re being purposefully insulated so we develop technologically and sociologically up to a certain point where we’ll be able to join everyone else. I doubt they’ll say anything. That’s the point. In fact i think we’re being shielded as a kindness, possibly protected too. We, as a species, can’t even leave the solar system and return. I’m guessing an advanced enough civilization could create a believable enough reproduction of the universe for us to study.

I think the difference between the alien UN and our global organization is probably the same level as the difference between our UN and the North Sentinel Island tribal elders.

It just doesn’t make sense that the galaxy is empty. But my theory is just my best guess. I have no concrete evidence. I do think there are some mighty coincidences around here. For instance, a solar system stocked with several planets and minerals and a long life stable star, almost ideal from all the various star types available. A random meteorite hitting the earth after millions of years of dinosaurs not developing intelligent life. A very logical progression of bodies for a space faring civilization to grow. First the moon, then mars, then venus, etc. A lot of asteroids that seem to zip by Earth but always near miss at an alarming common rate. Jupiter strategically placed to keep Earth safe from a large number of meteors and other celestial bodies.

I think humans are a benevolent, non intrusive biological experiment by an advanced species or at the very least a protected species in some nature reserve. Them interacting with us could potentially hamper our development. It could be that religions were their previous attempts but didn’t work out so well.

  • We’re billions of people on the planet. Most jobs don’t even pay enough to feed a couple of people. I believe that there is an oversaturation of people on the planet and this has caused a devaluation of their labor.

Europe would have remained feudal for quite a longer time if the population collapse caused by the black plague hadn’t happened and caused the demographic changes that it did. Without the plague, peasant labor would be plentiful and the status quo would not have changed. However, with the population reduction, the class in power had to concede to enough changes that brought about the Reinassance and the Industrial era quickly after.

In the Bronze age, without the climate changes that brought about cold and dry conditions and triggered the fall of the city states ruled by an oppressive theocratic class, humans would have still been tied to those stifling conditions for longer and wouldn’t have brought about the classical era.

With the onset of AI and advanced robotics, population collapse will allow people to see their labor valued adequately, instead of just more and more people in the workforce working more hours and getting paid less and less, doing meaningless busy work jobs to pay for things that they don’t need or enjoy, like crypto, gambling or online cam girls. A controlled collapse by fertility is not only non threatening, it is also desirable and the most acceptable way to cull numbers a bit. We need this, otherwise, the base of the pyramid will only get wider while the top will only get slimmer. Tragedy breeds suffering, but also change and we NEED change. The problem is the transition, but after the transition, we’ll be in a better place as a society and we will bring about change.

  • Might as well sue the ISP as well. Who else can parents blame for their lack of competence and awareness in what their children are doing in an environment where they can communicate, apparently in an unfiltered manner, with adults ?

It’s really funny. Companies have made all sorts of lockdown programs and monitoring software anyone can purchase for any operating system and then there’s parents blaming other entities for the fact that they have decided not to use those programs.

We chose not to have kids, but still we are apparently saddled with raising the kids other people chose to have. It’s like having a toddler and no door, then your toddler walks into traffic, dies, and you blame the city for killing your toddler. That’s UK law for you.

The guy in the article had the child send him 220 pictures right under a mother and father’s nose before he was caught. A child who, by the way, was 11, barely a teen. Holy terrible parenting, batman. These people should lose custody immediately.

A dude got caught making bomb threats at Harvard because he was the only one in his university that connected to TOR and they knew from the entry node it had to be from that area. They checked the logs and only one PC had directly connected to the TOR network from that area at that time. The guy wanted more time to study.

And a separate flash with your password database, PGP keyring and an encrypted files vault. If you need to go or to destroy/hide evidence, a flash drive is much easier, specially when the task force going after you is more worried about hard drives and laptops and usually gloss over flash drives at least initially.

Depends on what you wanna do with TOR. If you wanna be anonymous in your regular internet browsing and torrents, go with a good quality paid for VPN with no logs, like mullvad or proton. You don’t need TOR at all. You’re not worth the hassle.

If you’re trying to commit chill crimes like ordering drugs online, then you should probably look up the DNM bible. Just TOR and maybe a bridge is enough probably, if people where you live in don’t use TOR. LEO can’t see your traffic but if you’re the only one using TOR in your neighborhood, it’s pretty easy to pin you.

If you’re a journalist and you’re about to piss off a powerful government, you probably need a bridge and TOR and a laptop with no hard drive. You will probably need some self hosted machines to obfuscate your traffic which you will need to recycle really often. You shouldn’t use a phone. You also need a lot of money and a lot of help, specially in countries that are against the country you’re pissing off. Opsec becomes a full time job, depending on how many friends you have.

If you’re trying to run a drug empire or distribute CSAM, getting caught is merely a question of when no matter what you use, because even politically divergent countries and organizations will unite to put you in jail, even if they’re normally on the crime side of things. Nobody likes CSAM distributors and drug empires usually don’t make a lot of friends and make way too much money to keep the ones they do.

This horse has been beaten to death. There are literal computer science papers debating this specific issue. More than one even. Refuting you here is just a waste of time. Go read those much more comprehensive papers than anything that could be written here. Just use your search engine of choice and type Anonymity, TOR and VPN and watch as a world of refuting unfolds in front of your eyes. Academic, scientific, peer reviewed, quality refuting.

At the end of the day you use whatever you feel like using. It’s your machine, possibly your freedom at stake. Go ahead, use whatever you please.
