My question to anyone able to answer this: how can you afford to take a sabbatical period??? I can’t even afford to take a weeks vacation. It would wreck me financially not receiving pay for a whole week. Let alone a year??? What’s going on in this thread?
Second Bazzite. My use case is almost identical to OPs. Been using Bazzite for a while and I haven’t had a single issue. Everything works. Gaming is a breeze. Even works with my work dock with keyboard, mouse, webcam, and 2 1080p monitors attached. Plug n play.

You keep referencing your own personal tech adeptness as some sort of gotcha against what the study found. This is exactly what they say. People well-versed in tech greatly overestimate the general public’s tech abilities.
You are in your own bubble. Your kids are good at tech because YOU are good at tech. Just peruse through your posting history. You’re posting about hacker conferences and running local Joplin services. You are NOT the average tech consumer. Congratulations on being surrounded by like minded peers. You are not the average.
The findings of the study went absolutely over your head. You’re clearly very tied to your personal experience and cannot see outside of it so any more interaction or discussion would be a waste of both of our times. Take care.
You might be misunderstanding what I’m saying. I haven’t said that there aren’t any in the 40+ crowd that are tech savvy, just the overwhelming majority arent.

I expect someone in their 40s to not know copy and paste. The more savvy that I have worked with/taught knew they could right click and then click “copy” from the drop down list. Ctrl+c blew some peoples minds when I showed it.

I’m having a very hard time accepting that your 60 year old parents, after seeing Linux, said something along the lines of “What was windows doing for us?”
I teach adults 40-80 on how to use Windows products. I’ve taught over 5,000 people this year so far. The vast majority didn’t even understand the concept of browser tabs or copy/paste. These are people well into their professions in corporate office jobs. They don’t even know what an operating system is.

Baldurs Gate 3 had a similar issue that they had to fix. Performance by Act 3 would be super bad and things would load very slowly or crash. Turns out it was due to all the NPCs judging every single crime you’ve committed over your entire playthrough.
I thought it was really neat.
Also don’t buy this because like the previous flight simulator, they will restrict you to slow Microsoft servers so your first 150 hours in-game will actually just be downloading additional content at whatever speed Microsoft has limited their servers. 5MBPs? Maybe sometimes!
Download gpt4all and you can get an open source model that performs basically as good as any of the paid ones.

In university, I figured that it was just hilarious to PRETEND to send dick pics.
What do I mean by that? Sounds sus.
Essentially I would take a picture of my jeans while I was wearing them, but only my lap. No outlines or anything technically inappropriate. I’d have a caption like “I think I’m looking stylish, u like???” It was funny amongst my friends (I’m pretty sure - they laughed and egged me on).
I figured I would send a pic to this guy we were friends with who was running for some faculty government position. I had texted him so I had his number but I hadn’t added him to my contacts, so he just appeared as his phone number in my messages app.
Turns out my lab partner (a grumpy woman who was very serious) was also in my texting app, not in my contacts, and also just appearing as her phone number.
I got the two mixed up.
Panicked and told her the ruse and how it was meant for another person who I didn’t add but she wasn’t having it. I guess I don’t blame her. The explanation was weirder compared to the idea that a creepy guy sent her a weird pic.
She reported it to the prof and faculty the next day and I got scheduled for an academic hearing. I sat at a table with several administrators and the head of the engineering faculty they told me I had essentially committed a crime and that the university has zero tolerance and usually hands everything over to the police.
They mentioned that the woman was given the option to submit a police report for the instance but chose not to if it meant I would be ejected from the class she was in so I wouldn’t be her lab partner anymore. Took the F in that class instead of being kicked out of my program and never played that dumb game again.
