Wow, thanks! I guess there’s always a chance to learn something new!

Great pick. Awesome song from the good days of Tim.
Doesn’t the bubbly reaction do anything? It sure looks impressive.
Whenever I’m in doubt about cleaning, I try sprinkling a good amount of baking soda and then pouring copious amounts of vinegar, then letting it do its thing. It’s an inexpensive experiment to try and could solve your problem.
Knowing when to quit a battle is a virtue, not a failure.
I like to remind myself Tim Minchin’s song “The Fence” and remember that I don’t always have to have the answer or the opinion on every single topic. https://vimeo.com/410679852
Basically, I say to myself: sometimes it’s ok to be ignorant - as long as I’m aware that I’m ignorant.
Could be a black Friday palette swap?
All these services from Netflix to Uber are built on understandable foundations. They lose a ton of money in their first phase in order to gain subscribers but sooner or later start looking to turn profit out at least stop the bleeding.
I can already hear the outcry of surprised gamers when Microsoft cracks the whip on their Game Pass pricing, and there will be little to no alternative because they bought out most of the studios and publishers.
Look up the “theory of American exceptionalism”. In short there is a very strong belief here that America is one of a kind and things that may work for others simply don’t apply here.
Explains why the US stocks a 12hr clock, messed up month/day/year mission, imperial measurement and a ton of other things that any foreigner will find anywhere from quirky to infuriating.
IMHO the exceptionalism theory is a b.s. lazy way of keeping things conservative and unchanged and shutting down any discussion of uncomfortable progress.
GPT 4 with image uploads gets pretty damn close, though it’s not real-time and processed server side
Uhhhh I’d so like to see that!
Googly eyes. Don’t leave home without them
A big part of it is corporations simply eliminating competition. Why improve yourself when you can buy them out, scrape them for parts and then dissolve.
We must not forget another factor though: A lot of these apps, companies and studios are built on a startup model. They were never designed to be profitable or even economically sustainable. Their entire goal was to create a flashy product with positive user experience and then to get bought by a bigger company. That’s the cash-out time, and most of startups don’t really plan for anything afterwards.
You get bought, you do your time (1-2 years of continued service for the new owners) and then cash out, break loose and either retire or go fund another startup.
There are some cases, like game studio Bungie, where the company itself had vision beyond selling out and after being bought by Microsoft and not loving it - bought itself OUT and then continued its existence (until being bought by Sony). Most of startups don’t think that far, and the product they truly build is not an app or a service but simply stockholder value. They make the buyer’s stock go up when they get acquired and get paid for that.
It’s kinda sad to see for someone like me who was brought up with the ideals of building things that last and creating your own legacy, but that’s today’s startup-driven innovation economy.
It’s such a bullshit article. For almost it’s entire mission, Perseverance is exploding an ancient river delta. It’s been doing it for years!
For anyone interested, I strongly recommend Mars Guy YouTube channel https://youtube.com/@MarsGuy?si=uGXt3X6GWDpvI78Q Every Sunday he reports on what the rovers (and helicopter) have been up to on Mars. Fascinating stuff.
That hall of fame Reddit thread where a guy announced he will try heroin just one time, then comes back to explain how the experience was and how he will try again. Over the course of many posts we see persons entire life unravel as other posters scream of the top of their lungs for him to stop.
Never figured if it was real or scripted, but hella effective.
Jeez! Terrifying. Sounds like something from It’s Always Sunny!
Try meeting people and hanging out more. You have a notion of Love being this flash feeling that you fall into… that’s not what love is, that’s Attraction.
Love can start small and grow over time as you spend time together, learn each other’s idiosyncrasies, quirks and habits. Don’t expect love will be this huge earth shattering revelation. These can happen and are fun, but once again - Attraction, not love. May turn into love over time, or burn bright and fast.
Don’t let your imaginary character stop you from spending time with real people. Just be ready for them not to be like her, and try to be curious about what other types of humans are out there by spending meaningful time with them. They may never match your imaginary girl on many levels, but you’ll find they have other qualities on offer, and perhaps some of them will become a part of your life too.
Worst case scenario is you will learn more about people.
Interesting take, but I don’t think I can agree. While typical American humor is often based on question-answer/punchline structure, many comedians managed to excel at purposefully breaking it.
Think about Joe Cera, John Wilson, Nathan Fielder even Jon Benjamin or David Cross. They are all very funny (it the audience that vibes with their style), yet usually avoid the idea of buildup-punchline.
For a more universal surreal humor you need look no further than the granddaddies of the entire school: The Monty Python crew. They often went out of their way to ridicule the idea of a punchline and were/are some of the funniest people in history.
(You could always argue that humor does not equal jokes I guess, but these were just my 2 cents)
Fun fact - in Polish language the word alfabet exists as a technical name of the alphabet. There is also a more casual word, often used by children: abecadło which is basically polish way of saying “The ABCs”.
