  • One of the biggest walled gardens around. Also, they treat users like they’re stupid. No, you can’t do anything with your hardware or software that we don’t want you to. No, you can’t fix it, either. Windows/Linux you’re free to break shit, change whatever you want (not always for windows), repair a system you build yourself, etc. And I despise apple’s perceived “status” and premium pricing. We joke about #pcmasterrace, but there’s some weird social cache around messaging and even dating where you have to have an iPhone to participate. Tf is wrong with people.

  • You’re not wrong. AI is just another tool to scrape cash to the top while eliminating jobs. Could it realize benefits like doing specialized research and testing? Sure…but again, the results of that work are lost human jobs and scraping money to the top. We can argue about advancing technology in a horse cart driver vs automobile thing (won’t anyone think about the poor farriers out of work?) but we’ve already done everything we can to eliminate blue collar jobs with as much automation as possible. Now AI is set to attack middle class jobs. Economically I don’t think that’s going to work out well.

  • We know when spring has hit in our typical suburban neighborhood. The constant drone of small engines. Mowers. Leaf blowers. Trimmers. Doesn’t matter the day, you can always hear at least one somewhere, but weekends are obviously the worst.

I’m doing my best to go electric. Electric trimmers are fantastic if you get a decent one. I’d like to get an electric blower, but reviews seem to indicate they’re not quite there yet in terms of power and useful time. We’ve got a large-ish lot, and an EV mower that could last long enough would easily be high 4-figures. Can’t swing that when I’ve already got a paid-for gas one, but I’d love to go all electric.
