I use the desktop FreeTube app and watching YouTube works smoothly. On mobile, I use invidious via a browser or Safari in iOS with 1Blocker and NewPipe on Android.

Let’s be honest, GM can’t make money off owners using this software. They can make their own and have owners pay a subscription like some Tesla owners do now.
I’m using FreeTube and NewPipe to view now. Yewt.ube is working on iOS devices in Safari with 1Blocker. Firefox and uBO is my last option if I happen to click a link that opens automatically.
Really wish there was an iOS app similar to the open source apps listed above. Currently Safari browser and 1Blocker are still working for me on my devices.
Good. Now let’s stop talking about this man daily.
I use Fedora on my T470 with no issues. It might just be Arch. Have you tried other distros? I wish there was a ThinkPad community here.
I also use Fedora on a 2008 Mac Pro with no issues. I’m really surprised how good it is because I’ve been using Linux since the 90s and never had it just run smoothly on my older hardware.
If I was single it would be easier but ya know family 🤷♂️
I use FreeTube on desktop and NewPipe on mobile. I’m still searching for a solution to the AppleTV.
I use FreeTube on my desktop and Newpipe on my GrapheneOS Pixel 7, I don’t see any ads or graphic overlays. The family uses AppleTV and the YouTube app is a horrible experience with the amount of ads, even for a 3 minute video. Future project is to look into Pihole or something to block ads at the router level.
Another vote for Fedora. I run it on a 2008 Mac Pro daily just fine. Good luck.
I do this with older Kindles that I do not sign into. It works great and inexpensive.
