Look up how HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) works. They just need to generate a personalized playlist for each person which points at things already hosted on CDN, and insert the ads where they want in the literal text file that your video player reads from to serve you the video.
I don’t know much about it, but it looks like there’s specific tags designed for dynamic ad insertion. Idk if YouTube plans to use them in this case though, if they want it to be undetectable to the client.
It sounds like you’re describing the same thing that happened when we globalized manufacturing. Economists said everyone would retrain and go to other fields, but it just doesn’t seem to happen IRL.
Everywhere I’ve worked, you have a Windows/Mac for emails, and then either use WSL, develop on console in Mac since it’s Linux, or most commonly have a dedicated Linux box or workstation.

It’s been published by multiple sources at this point that this happens because of detected proximity. Basically, they know who you hang out with based on where your phones are, and they know the entire search history of everyone you interact with. Based on this, they can build models to detect how likely you are to be interested in something your friend has looked at before.
The way that “Hey Alexa” or “Hey Google” works is by, like you said, constantly analysing the sounds they said. However, this is only analyzed locally for the specific phrase, and is stored in a circular buffer of a few seconds so it can keep your whole request in memory. If the phrase is not detected, the buffer is constantly overwritten, and nothing is sent to the server. If the phrase is detected, then the whole request is sent to the server where more advanced voice recognition can be done.
You can very easily monitor the traffic from your smart speaker to see if this is true. So far I’ve seen no evidence that this is no longer the common practice, though I’ll admit to not reading the article, so maybe this has changed recently.
So, I can’t easily find the name of the ship in Chinese, but it could possibly be a translation error during naming? New New is xīng xīng in pingying (romanized phonetic Chinese), which is also the same spelling as star… If whoever did the translation was bad at it and did it solely off of the phonetics or romanized spelling.

Get Adobe to port their software to Linux. They’re literally all that’s holding me on Windows. I know there’s some options to replace them, but those seem to be a mixed bag of seemingly deliberately difficult to use, or require way too much setup time to port my existing portfolio (LR to DT).

In this case, yes, everyone seems perfectly fine, but dilution isn’t the solution to everything when the body you’re diluting into is finite.
There’s definitely some real benefits to in person collaboration, but even when I’m in the office (a large majority of the time since I need to test on hardware) I mostly just send a slack message for 99% of things. If it’s a really pressing need I’ll go find them in person, but I could also just call people online.
Whiteboard sessions are better on a physical whiteboard, but I think everything else goes perfectly fine over chat or voice call.
Instead, I find motivation to be my biggest reason to come into the office. Sure, I still waste a lot of time on lemmy in the office, but I’m still more productive more often when I’m at my desk.
I love my Garmin, but it is a kinda closed system. I’m not sure how easy it is to develop your own apps for it, but the default ones, while very good, definitely have their problems.
Yeah, my infection was 4-5 months after the last booster too, so there’s even a chance I still had a little bit of protection going in. No long term effects thankfully, though exercise was really rough for a month or two afterwards, which really worried me.
The vaccine gave me, at worst, a sore arm for a couple days. The actual infection knocked me completely out for 3 days. I had enough energy to microwave and eat food a couple times a day, and sleep.
The HAMR/MAMR are exactly what I’m talking about. It is obviously unproven, but you can get new 20/22tb CMR HDDs now for 17.5¢ per GB very regularly, not counting sales. They’re what I’m currently running, and the normal price has dropped something close to 20% in the last year alone.
The next advance on HDDs literally came last year. 20tb+ drives are available at ever decreasing prices these days, after being stalled at 16/18tb for a good few years.
Adobe software for creative work. Afaik there’s okay replacements, but not great ones. Also, migrating your Lightroom catalog to a new software is kinda a ridiculous task
I’m a power user as well, and Firefox handles my hundreds of tabs perfectly fine. On Android it honestly handles them better than Chrome, though there are a few UI features missing there, like tab reordering.
I’ll say that if the really talented people are signing on to this, that could be noticeable. I know Amazon tends to just churn through devs every year, but actually good software engineers are surprisingly hard to find.
