Yeah of course. I was imagining being the founder of a growing business or something like that. Most of that value was skimmed from the work of others, but that person could still be putting in long days of “work” to keep the thing growing.

And I’m sure there are plenty of people we’ve never heard about that sold the business and lived a wonderful quiet life with their family. We get to hear about the ones that are mentally ill to the point where they cannot stop, and must continue to acquire.

If I try to imagine my life where I had $100 million and the best thing I could find to do with my time— given that just about everything would be within my budget — was to work long hours and try to raise thar number… it just seems sad.

That’s the exact kind of go-getter a lot of society has told me is the person I should want to be too. Gross.

I use MS teams for meetings every day at work, in Firefox, in Linux. It’s nice that even the camera works when I need it to.

Like many fields, computer work is still good if you’re drawn to it as a legitimate interest of yours. I’m part of a software engineering group working on embedded systems. I think the other engineers and our boss all really like what we have going, but you can tell everybody is a proper computer nerd and not the “I heard there was money in computers” type.

Admittedly though, generative AI is hitting certain segments of the field harder than others.

I know teams is probably the most hated product in tech savvy corporate America, but I do at least give MS credit that I can let it live in a Firefox tab and my audio & video work fine for meetings.

But when anybody tries to use a Teams-equipped conference room? Whoo boy!

Yeah, jira is going alright for us at work, but there are a lot of supporting people maintaining it and prioritizing things in meetings that we engineers don’t have to attend.

Everybody gangs up on hating Teams instead!

It makes it all the more attention-grabbing when you hit just the right mix of attitude, self-care, antidepressants, and stimulants that you can just do some shit and feel good about it, then even look forward to doing some other shit and getting that done too.

It doesn’t fix everything and it doesn’t stay that way without ongoing work, but it helps to genuinely know the feeling to help you going your way back there again.

Yeah I don’t know about y’all but I have plenty of family members who are addicted to being angry.

I’m curious why you wouldn’t recommend mint. Is it due to some kind of problem, or is it just a personal taste thing?

I use mint daily so if there are potential issues I just want to know!

I’m not sure if I saw it in the same place, but I saw the same recommendation long ago and have stuck with it ever since.

I don’t rely on it for changing lanes though. It absolutely helps situational awareness, but I always turn and look.

Judging by some of my distant acquaintances it’s something along the lines of HURR DURR GASOLINE WAS CHEAPER 8 YEARS AGO. They focus on a global commodity of all things.

Seriously, the only stuff I’ve seen from them that even approaches a policy comparison rather than “lol black lady is a ho” caliber stuff revolves around money. And some of that might actually be a valid discussion if it were correct and if it weren’t for the absurd amount of other issues.

It’s just a low-information team sport, regardless of how insane reality is.

You give them way too much credit. They look for negativity and outrage and persecution in everything, not reason and investment and public benefit. To them the biggest danger to the American economy is liberals taking the money from the working folk and giving it to the welfare queens to cover their Lexus leases or whatever.

I clip my keys themselves to whichever thing I have to bring with me or remember.

For me, a proper reminder needs to have a property like physically preventing progress until I take care of the thing, or jumping up and demanding my attention until I take care of the thing.

The most basic form is that if I need to do something tomorrow at noon, I don’t create a reminder. I create an alarm! And if the alarm goes off and the thing is not done, I snooze it instead of stop it.

Perfectly put. The product is great and I love how it democratizes “being on TV” and lets some people make a living doing their own thing.

But I do not like where YouTube’s cut of that ad/sub money goes, and the enshittification pushed into it.

Unfortunately, YouTube is not unique in that regard. It’s a sucky fact of life that just about any complex product you spend money on will benefit a collection of rich sociopaths skimming as much as possible from the incomes of the people actually making the thing. Gotta vote with your wallet where you can, and vote the traditional way for the systemic issues.
