Surely you could implement this via a sorting algorithm? If you can prove the distance function is a metric and both lists contains elements from the same space under that metric, isn’t the answer to sort both?

Yup, that’s been my experience with getting people to at least consider Linux as well. The first thing they ask when I tell them it’s a different OS like Mac is, “so can it run XYZ?” Most people don’t actually care and just want something that runs the apps they use.

Interestingly, my mom (a Windows user her whole life) seemed just as alienated by macOS as by Linux. Her work gave her a Mac and she couldn’t understand anything after about a week so she just asked for a Windows system instead.

They’d have to drop it significantly for most people to buy. If I had a spare $2k I’d upgrade my Mac.

Which plugin do you use?

Linux Mint with Cinnamon. Easiest transition. If you want customization, use KDE. If you want your desktop environment to make choices for you, GNOME.

Good choice with Fedora! I love dnf and the choices Fedora makes overall.

100% agree. I personally haven’t got a use case that fits very well with it (maybe someday when I build a Zettelkasten), but I can see why the community loves it so much. Open source and a great library of plugins.

Edit: Turns out it isn’t open source and their terrible misunderstanding of open source doesn’t help.

I’ve never understood why anyone uses Evernote. Just use a folder with Markdown files. Or Obsidian. Or VS Code with plugins. Or EMacs org mode. So many good FOSS options out there (yes, I know VS Code isn’t FOSS but VSCodium is) that don’t lock you in. Hypocritical of me to say as an Apple user, but I hate when companies’ business models are to lock in consumers. Just make a better product that’s worth paying for.

I like Aptos more than Calibri, but I wish they also had a better Serif typeface than Cambria.

CMU Serif is always a good choice imo.

Times, which I think NeurIPS uses, is pretty solid.

Latin Modern Roman is another good one, used by TMLR.

IBM Plex just looks so nice too.

Yup. The MacBook I would actually want is about $1.9-2.3k, but Windows laptops with similar specs also cost a similar amount, so I guess I’ll stick with my current one.

Yeah. I use a MacBook for its build quality and being UNIX (cough Windows cough), plus some niceties like iCloud, but the RAM cost is insane.
