A lot of people euphemistically use “school night” to mean work night.

If you want to do the software equivalent of digging a ditch that’s cool, but I’m not sure why you would expect to get an engineer’s salary for doing so.
The idea that coding is the only part of your job is “actual work” is where you’re going wrong. The goal is to create robust, well-functioning software that’s documented and fulfills what it needs to do, not write an arbitrary amount of code. Your job is more than just doing the part you like.
At the end of the day I’d rather medical research be conducted on dogs than humans (at least, prior to when things are ready for human trials). But also I’m pretty sure it’s regulated what can be tested on different kinds of animals. The bar for testing on rodents is for example much lower than the bar for primates.
I can say that in the case of enterprise windows setups, the system caches your login credentials if it can’t reach the domain controller, so that you can still log in even if you’re not on the corporate network. I imagine it does similar for windows accounts (but I never use one so I can’t say for sure).
Well it’s probably the music labels. They basically only exist to steal money from the actual creators.
I very much associate it with the kind of person in the corporate environment who says things like “does somebody have a case of the Mondays?”
TBH this is surprisingly honest.
There was x11amp at one point. I forget what it’s named now.
I’m in my 40s and I still regularly have dreams that I somehow didn’t really graduate high school.
“Senioritis” usually describes people who have checked out because they have a short amount of time left and have already received college admissions, so their grades don’t matter much.
False dichotomy here. Americans could certainly reduce their intake of meat without going full vegan. Regulations could be created to treat livestock more humanely without completely eliminating factory farming, which yes would increase prices, which would probably also reduce meat consumption somewhat. Also population growth within the US has dropped off quite a bit and is projected to further decline.
Consumers have limited visibility into the conditions under which their products are made, and consumer behavior does not always result in the most desirable outcome for the public. Which makes it a regulation problem. That’s why regulation exists.
Well, I mean, I can think of several different variations of a stovetop version (bechamel, the sodium citrate, or the condensed milk version that’s been gaining popularity), a question of whether to bake it or not, endless add-ins, choices of cheese to use, choice of pasta to use. Making a bechamel without lumps is not hard but it does require some knowledge of basic technique. And it is actually conceivable that someone would use fresh pasta, which is a whole different ballgame. So while macaroni and cheese in its most basic is not at all a difficult dish it leaves tons of room for putting a personal spin on it…which means it has plenty of ways it can go wrong, too. I’ve certainly had plenty of disappointing mac and cheese in my life, sometimes at restaurants that really should be able to do better.
That’s kind of my point…if you can’t manage a decent mac and cheese, you pretty much can’t cook at all.
If you’re talking about the box, understandable. If you’re talking about actual mac and cheese, maybe you just don’t know anyone who knows how to cook.
Wait do people do lines off of cell phones these days?
While most people on Lemmy are going to know what this means, the person who wrote this error message was definitely trying to be cute with that phrasing.
God both Safeway and Costco rearranged recently and I am indeed mad.
(Note: they do this on purpose so you have to wander around the store and end up buying more stuff because you spend more time and walk down aisles you normally don’t)
Well that’s largely because so few companies are doing agile correctly. Its usually some form of agilefall.
