This is probabaly largely due to the dosage.

Back in the 70s & 80s kids were, on-average, given 30mg instant release of Ritalin a day to start. These days they’ve cut that starting dose down to 5mg 2x a day for IR and the long acting is 10-20 once a day depending on the child’s weight.

Dosage back then was also determined by severity of “undesired” symptoms instead of other factors like body mass and how well a lower starting dose is performing.

ADHD is the worst at this.

A disorder that makes it hard to have cognitive function & execution has you required to do the following:

    1. Remember that you have the disorder.
    2. Remember that you can get treatment for it.
    3. Find a doctor/NP that specializes in ADHD or cognitive disorders.
    4. Schedule an appointment.
    5. Go to the appointment and go through the rigmarole of getting a new RX.
    6. (Current Market) Call around to pharmacies to find one that has your RX in stock and hope your medical insurance doesn’t reject it or prescribe you something else because you don’t have patient history with just Adderall yet and have to repeat this step because this pharmacy only had the other RX available.
    7. Go pick up your RX.
    8. Repeat 4-8 monthly since ADHD meds are tightly regulated and you can only get a 30-day supply without auto-refills.

Yeah… We’re completely setup for success.

  • Firefox had some major memory leaks when Chrome first launched (2008). It became noticeable with the more tabs you had and the longer the browser was opened. This was also during the days for consumer systems with 16GB max RAM & 32GB on higher end enthusiast systems.

We also have to remeber that this was 10 years before Google removed their “Don’t be Evil” motto, and there was still a great deal of trust that had been earned by tech professionals.

So when Chrome came in, had a minimalist UI (for the time) and was light weight and memory light without any obvious memory leaks, it was a performance boost for a toooon of users.

Chrome has since become a memory hog and is now being developed and pushed by a company that has become heavily enshittified & evil. Firefox has become lightweight, memory efficient, and is an FOSS product that’s not evil and enshittified making it the right choice in 2024, but is going to be an uphill battle that hopefully more tech professionals move to as Manifest V3 becomes a reality.

  • I switched off of Firefox because of those memory leaks. I remeber when it hit the tech news circles when the community contributer that was frustrated with them went in and fixed two of the biggest culprits.

Then I just didn’t bother til somewhat recently. For the most part, it’s great and does what ilI want/need. Biggest complaint is that some UX overhauls are needed for Mobile FX, especially around tab management.

    I’m glad I tried.

But I’m also doing so much better now and a 15mg Adderall xr does has been working great for 2 years now. I also found a job that follows my passions and I’ve been able to channel the hyper focus and drive to build and keep a schedule for work. The last step is to reintegrate my fitness hobby (cycling) back into my life and I’ll be back to where I was before some asshole manager from my previous job caused a mild panic attack in me and things broke down.

Strattera gave me stomach issues for 3 months straight and didn’t do shit for my ADHD symptoms. Finally went back to stims afterwards. At least with stims I either forget to eat or am disgusted by the thought of eating, but if I do eat, my stomach doesn’t feel terrible.
