  • I use a buckwheat pillow with a mulberry silk pillow case. I live in Miami and I like a cold pillow, and that’s the coldest combination I could come up with. they also have those blue gel cooling pillows, they’re pretty uncomfortable, but I keep one under my buckwheat pillow, also in a silk pillowcase, so that I can flip my buckwheat pillow and the cool gel can draw the heat off so the other side is always cool for me. and silk pillowcases work a lot better than satin

  • everybody’s feed is an echo chamber. each person has access to something like 1% of the total videos posted, so two feeds will be unrecognizable. all the videos I get are about how to help Palestinian families, or short history documentaries, or a published linguist talking about interesting words, this guy who collects license plates (I don’t care about license plates but his channel is great), this guy who collects stamps and helps people evaluate the sets that they find in grandad’s closet (I don’t give a shit about stamps but the history that he talks about alongside them is great). the Green Brothers, if you’re still into them. plus all the major news outlets are on there, as well as quite a few politicians. woodworkers, clay artists, stonemasons, glass blowers, all showing their art daily

I’ve been blocking anybody who does undeclared advertising for like a year, and they just don’t show me that shit anymore

  • italian has prendere un granchio, lit. meaning, “to catch a crab”.

It indicates a gross mistake, the achievement of a much lower result than hoped for or, more rarely, purchasing something believing it to be of much higher value than it actually is. This expression, among the most common used in Italian to indicate a mistake, has its origins in fishing , particularly sport fishing. If you lower the line into the sea until you reach the seabed and touch the bottom with the hook and the bait, it may happen that a crab bites instead of a fish . As soon as the crustacean is hooked, it immediately begins to struggle violently to free itself from the hook, giving the fisherman the impression that it has instead hooked a large prey. Fishing for a crab with a rod is normally a source of disappointment for the fisherman, since it is a useless prey, which in some cases can even damage the line. The origin of the phrase was born from this disappointment, generated by the expectation of a large fish.
