Our government has completely lost its way. The Founders would be both appalled and ashamed.
The most Presidential of all our former Presidents. I will shed tears at his passing.
This relationship can be saved as long as the guy’s wife does not start expressing an interest in Emacs. That would, of course, put an end to the relationship, but if she’s one of those “Notepad is all I need” types, there is hope this can be worked through.
You got me choked up a bit with this post because it was spot -on.
Fucking hero. Law enforcement in Uvalde should take notes.
Love my Kindle.
60yo here.
I spent the first 40 years of my life in Portland, OR (it used to be a great city). Then I married a Soldier and I’ve lived in several other places. We started in Denver spent two years there. It’s a fantastic city, but really expensive. Then we spent 3.5 years on Long Island, living in East Meadow, I hated how crowded it was, what the traffic was like. My wife has an 18 mile commute that often took 90 minutes. Then we moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky. We bought a house off post. The cost of living is much lower than other places we’ve lived. Our town is 2600 people. The people are polite and kind and our plan is after our next PCS next summer, to return here when my wife retires at 30 years.

Well aware that the re naming effort is complete. Mostly abysmal names, though Gregg-Adams and Novosel are pretty good. When you have amazing humans like Medal of Honor recipient Roy Benavidez and choose Liberty as the new name for Bragg over Benavidez, because he wasn’t an officer, that’s fucked up.
I don’t believe that any person of color should have to live on or work at an installation named after someone who believed that owning other human beings was appropriate and then fought for that belief.
I’m in whole hearted agreement with the renaming of our military posts named after Confederates.
That said, I’m not in favor of this removal, we as Americans must never forget, and memorials like this are an in-your-face reminder of what happened and the appalling legacy of slavery. My preference would be that it stayed with some educational materials nearby as a constant reminder of people behaving horribly.
If course he exists! I’m 60 years old have raised four children and believe beyond any shadow of a doubt.
My kids have come to me and said “Dad you know that Santa’s not real” They can’t shake my faith, and now that one of them is a parent, I bet they start to find their faith in him again.
That is a really interesting anecdote I find it both surprising and completely understandable.
Gosh, thank you so much!
This is my answer also. I wish I was multi-lingual.
I’m regularly on calls with people for whom English is not their primary language. Almost without fail they apologize for their poor English. I regularly tell those people, “please don’t apologize, you do me that courtesy of communicating with me in my native tongue. I am completely unable to reciprocate that courtesy.”
I’d love to be fluent in Spanish, French, German.
Fuck, just your comment got me.
Living a life of quiet desperation?
I fully get that.
Yikes! I need to not use my phone for posting.
This falls into the No Shit Sherlock category.
My daughter’s fifth grade year, she was mostly her own teacher. She’s motivated and wants to do well, so it mostly, sorta, kinda worked for her.
Any student not particularly motivated was in for ax world of difficulty.
I’m 247.5 Oreo Cookies tall, that is many more Oreos than most, but not as many as some.
