I tried Gemini and it periodically failed to set timers and reminders. When I asked it the date next Tuesday, it got the answer wrong. 🤷♂️

you only get one body so may as well look after it
That’s a really good way of putting it.
this is the only thing I’ve found that allows me to escape my mind and be in the moment
That’s what I really like about snowboarding and inline skating - if I’m not focusing on the activity, I take a tumble, so I have to pay attention. I don’t know if either of those are something you’d enjoy, but maybe give them a shot?
I’m really sorry that’s how things ended up for you. Best of luck.
I have a sedentary job as a software developer so it’s good to be more active.
…
would you continue this hobby even though it’s wrecking my hands
As a software developer who also has fucked up hands, no. This is your meal ticket. Don’t mess with it. Being depressed with a job is way better than being depressed without a job and a disability.
I’ve actively avoided activities that use my hands because I don’t want to mess them up more. It sucks, but that’s where we’re at.
I don’t know what activity to recommend. I do leg-centric stuff: swimming, inline skating, snowboarding, and soccer. I don’t know if those would be good for you.
Edit: sorry. That came across as hostile. My hand situation is managed, but it still gets to me. I’m trying to say that you should take care of yourself and your hands. The short-term gain of an activity that messes you up isn’t worth it.
Exercise feels great, and I hope you find something that works for your mind and your body.
I hadn’t heard about them until now. Here’s a Wikipedia article.
As a parent teaching kids to read, I’d love an alphabet that didn’t have the stupid ambiguities of current English. Trying to explain to a kid that “c” can make a few different sounds is a pain in the butt.
Our volunteer ambassadors will attend local Linux and open-source events, meet with other Framework laptop users and potential community members, answer questions, gather feedback, and showcase Framework laptops and parts to those interested. Ambassadors will be in close touch to Framework employees and they will represent the Linux community, feedback and requests directly to our engineers and to our internal Linux team.
That sounds way too close to unpaid labour. I’m all for recognizing community members with perks, merch, and other freebies; but this looks more like soliciting volunteers for unpaid PR.
I am brainstorming right now.
Leave. Go for a walk, or a coffee, or go home. Nobody knows you aren’t in a meeting room.
If your co-workers are into it, have a LAN party. I used to work at a place that had a daily management-approved kill session. It was good.
Totally agree. I am not compatible with summer.
Winter! Winter sports are awesome. Snow is beautiful. Long dark nights are cozy.

I started programming as a teen. I didn’t realize I could do that as a job (weird, I know), so I looked into lucrative careers I could do so I could afford to have lots of free time to program. Then I discovered that programming was also a job.
This is the level of sympathy I have come to expect from the Internet.

A community for some of the podcasts I listen to would be nice.
We have a few of those here, but they aren’t too active and they have a pretty narrow Overton window (ie, I tend to agree with most posts and comments).
I tried posting that kind of stuff. It was thankless. Nobody else started posting. I gave up.

needing a login that would require an email address is sketchy as hell on the surface, and there’s no explanation given.
The link to the explanation is right beside the text saying you need an account.

I love shitting on Python, but I feel like all those problems are present in libraries for other languages as well. There’s a tonne of that crap for JS/TS.
Similarly, I find a fair number of Rust crates (that I want to use) have virtually no doc or inline examples, and use weird metaprogramming that I can’t wrap my head around.
