Trust collapse? No hand wringing necessary. Fox news is a 24 hour disinfo campaign designed to erode trust. Start there. Investigate fox and work your way through everyone who has ever appeared on its airwaves. Most importantly this, always follow the fucking money. Youll be well on your way to ferreting out the lack of trust in america.

There is nothing clickbait about the headline. It is an accurate headline supported by data within the article.

my favorite part of the not-paywalled article?

To have any hope of rebuilding democratic trust, we will need two things that have been neglected for decades in American life. One is civic virtue—serious and respectful engagement in the hard work of living with disagreement and difference. The other is a radical commitment to building a social world where trust comes more readily.

in order to rebuild trust… we need to [do this thing that requires trust]!!

I mean, I live in the state where the leading republican candidate for governor last year… is the guy that got caught on tape ranting about kids going in litter boxes in elementary schools… because they identify as furries. And the other candidates were even crazier. That is who we have being elected into state government here… and they scary part is… they are sending their best.

same goes with trump and the federal level. the republican party is sending their best. And they’re freaking psychotic nazis. I don’t trust them not to pull a gun on me just because I looked at them funny.

Yeah in my state we legalized abortion on the state constitution and legalized marijuana, both by more than a few points. Our republican legislature immediately attempted to ban abortion anyways and began discussion on how to gut our marijuana laws.

We’re also the most gerrymandered state, so much so that we passed a constitutional amendment to ban gerrymandering. Our legislature responded by sending the same congressional maps over and over until it was too late and everyone had to accept it so we would be able to have an election.

Oh also now that we got two liberal issues via direct democracy they’re doing a bunch of anti trans bullshit

it’s always good to remind people that the litter boxes in classrooms thing is so kids don’t have to shit and piss themselves when they’re waiting to be killed by an active shooter, and can instead relieve themselves while waiting to die

The republicans declared the war on america, but honestly Carter started the neoliberal collapse. Once everything is laissez faire capitalism, who can be surprised power is bought and sold? There are no heroes in american power, LBJ on. Everyone except the “kooks” engineered this outcome for their own locust-like boomer greed and now we just live in the ruins of 50 years of decline with no hope.

Aside from the attempts to overthrow an election and violate civic norms from the Republican Party, the brinksmanship, the gall to admit their only motivation is to prevent the government from functioning and the voters who think that’s ok, the guy from Florida freely abusing government power for spite and somehow not being drummed out of office …… and the “Faux News” they rode in on ….

…. Actually I nominate all news. Once upon a time there was Journalism. The article even mentioned Walter Cronkite as an example of a trusted newscaster but then threw that away. He wasn’t just trusted, he was the front man of an organization that built trust, that competed with others to be most trusted. Journalism had standards and professionalism. They had fairness and objectivity. They built and continually maintained TRUST.

Now all too much journalism is outrage, “content generation”, and clickbait. The industry no longer supports trustworthy news organizations Trustworthy news sources are much harder to find and most people don’t have the skills to filter it from the spew of crap that is called “news”
