The WNBA salary cap is $1.4 million, and the deal with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority totals $1.2 million for the team.
The deal also is more money than half of the roster makes on their WNBA contract; six of the 12 players on the roster make under $100,000, according to Spotrac. A’ja Wilson and Kelsey Plum are the top earners at $200,000 each, while rookies Dyaisha Fair and Kate Martin will make $67,249 this season, the lowest on the team, according to the website.
Guard Sydney Colson, who according to Spotrac makes $76,535, said on social media it is “a life-changing investment.”
Note that Steph Curry made $52 million last year, while the WNBA investigates women who get 0.2% of that.
There are 12 teams, so 12*1.4 million…Steph Curry makes more then the entire WNBA pays it’s players.

This is utterly paltry compared to the cost of a stadium, and the LV convention bureau is funded by a dedicated hotel occupancy tax, not the city

Both bring more money into the city than they spend or they wouldn’t do it. The absurdity is that the billionaires would still build the stadiums and the money would still flow even if the cities refused to foot the bill. What blows my mind about the idea of a city paying every player on a team is that if the city is making enough in taxes to effectively DOUBLE the salaries of every player, then those same greedy billionaire owners can definitely afford to pay their players even more.
It has actually been shown that stadiums absolutely do not pay off for damn near any city that funds then with tax dollars.
