It’s reasonable for a high-end bleeding edge processor. Some of them are a couple hundred dollars more. It’s more than I’d spend these days, since computing power is so great that even the 20th-30th most powerful processor will do everything you need it to do, but some people are willing to spend a fortune to have the best of the best.
If it makes you feel any better, I can afford to, and still don’t. There’s really no point anymore. You can spend half that and still get a processor that’ll do literally everything you want it to do with overhead to spare. Benchmarks are well past the point of actual use now.
