The world would be a happier place if everyone did.
I am owned by several dogs and cats. I have been playing non-computer roleplaying games for almost five decades. I am interested in all kinds of gadgets, particularly multitools, knives, flashlights, and pens.
The world would be a happier place if everyone did.
I agree with your sentiments, but I do not think you’re right about the legal responsibilities. There are several terrible court precedents, going back to the time of Henry Ford, that establish draconian requirements for those running a corporation. The laws dealing with incorporation need to be rewritten, for many reasons, but with the power corporations currently have over our political process that is not likely to happen.
I would argue that unfettered capitalism generally rewards the least humane management and the worst people.
I didn’t say anything about stopping the manufacture of medications. There are any number of ways that could be handled which would be an improvement over our current pharmaceutical industry.
Inadvertently destroying the pharmaceutical industry would be one of the best possible outcomes.
I’m a big fan of the Matador series. I was surprised to find that another had been released. “Churl” apparently did not get much fanfare.
The advice about turning off the water from inside is the best solution. Having said that, I don’t always do it. The weather has been so variable over the last few years that turning the water on and off got to be a hassle. I do shut if off when we hit the main stretch of winter, but I use covers to guard against the unseasonable freezes that happen on either side of that. I have not had any problems over several years of this, so I think I can say that they work.
Sorry about that! I fixed it in the message above. I typoed the actual link, but the visible version was correct so I didn’t notice.
The correct address is: https://apps.aslanrefuge.org
I have already done that. My apps.aslanrefuge.org site has downloadable APKs for everything. It also has the code, for anyone who wants to tinker with it.
I just wish there was a better way. I need to look into F-Droid and other options.
It isn’t just about businesses. There used to be a lot more free apps on the Play Store, but keeping up with constantly-changing requirements makes that impractical. You can’t just put something up and leave it. You have to work on frequently or it gets dropped. You also have to keep up with their demands to limit certain features and to provide new information or it gets dropped.
I used to have a handful of free apps up on Play. Now they are all gone because I just don’t have the time to rewrite them every few months.
I think some vendors support it and some don’t.
AliExpress screwed me recently. A vendor sent me the wrong items. I mean, they weren’t even the same kind of items. I disputed it with the vendor and they said they’d sent the right things, so there.
I opened a case with AliExpress. They asked me for a whole lot of information, some of which didn’t make any sense, along with some pictures. I sent them everything. They sided with the vendor.
Fortunately, I had paid with PayPal. PayPal looked over the information from both sides and promptly refunded my money.
I don’t expect to be doing business with AliExpress again any time soon.
You may well be right. I do not have enough familiarity with the situation in India.
I think the principles still apply, but how to carry them out might well be very different.
Thank you for your comment.
First, get them out of the situation. If they don’t have somewhere to go that the abuser doesn’t know about, see if you have a local women’s shelter. Leaving the area entirely, at least temporarily, may be a good option.
Second, help them take action about the abuse. Contact the police or find a lawyer to help with the process. There are lawyers who will work cases like this without charging. There may also be local government agencies that are specifically tasked with investigating abuse.
Third, get them to seek help in recovering. There are likely to be local organizations that provide counseling and other resources. This is not going to be a short or easy process, but working at it will make a world of difference over the rest of their life.
I’ve been through this with more than one friend. Every bit of it is tough. Having your support will make a big difference. Abusers try to make their victims feel powerless and alone. Having a friend who will help works against that, as well as providing comfort.
I wish you both all the best!
Police officers like those should never be allowed to wear a badge again. And any police department that doesn’t take away their badges needs to be eliminated and rebuilt from the ground up with entirely new management. That is the only way we will ever get these transgressions to stop.
Step one in dealing with any unacceptable behavior is to make sure there are serious consequences. We are utterly failing to do that with the police.
It was uncomfortable for me too, but everyone’s hands are different. Also, like you, I am a Logitech MX Ergo user. Switching from thumb to finger trackballs is a major change.
This could be a huge deal. Mergers have allowed rich corporations to ignore innovation in favor of using their money to control their market. This would potentially push them away from that.
I wasn’t impressed with the Kobo, although it does the job. I’m not familiar with the Boox. I will have to look that one up.
I’m glad to see some other options. I’m not a fan of Amazon, but the only other practical option has been tablets, which are generally a lot more expensive and less well-suited to the purpose. This looks like a good design.
For this purpose, I’d recommend something more like this: Laptop Desk Folding Bed Tray
That will sit on the bed, instead of under it, but will raise the surface up to whatever height is needed.
Do you honestly think that Trump would be better? Have you read what he has to say about this subject?
I’m disgusted with Biden too, but sometimes choosing between the lesser of two evils is the responsible thing to do. Ethical choices are often the most difficult. One-topic voting is almost never ethical. The ultimate results do matter.
