Alpine works great off a usb, I run sway and quite a few other bits off it on a run-from-ram/encrypted config.
Just imagine when it comes out for wayland!
Can you not sell it and grab a III? They are pretty cheap used/refurb now - I got 2 in good condition for £200 each.

To be fair there are very stable distros like Debian that will hardly ever break.
Some of us like it to work, some of us like to make it work :)
This, if there’s a successor (an actual working one), it’s probably SailfishOS. Runs pretty well on my Xperia 10 III and the UI is super nice :)
