This is one someone previously suggested, and the one I tried that seems to work well: https://search.disroot.org/ - I see it’s not in the list above though. Not sure why.

I’ve been testing other search engines, and I found that SearX/SearXNG and Mojeek both turn up results for smaller websites that Google puts in 50th place for the exact title of the website/page.
I ran into a similar problem with snapshots of a forum and email server – if there are scheduled emails when you take the snapshot they get sent out again if you create a new test server from the snapshot. And similarly for the forum.
I’m not sure what the solution is either. The emails are sent via an SMTP so it’s not as simple as disabling email (ports, firewall, etc.) on the new test server.
Yep, that was one of them. Do you think that’s a good mechanism to automatically delete all user’s content when they get banned? Those example titles you shared don’t seem like obvious trolling nor obviously worthy of an account ban, and the collateral damage of deleting valid & popular threads seems bad.
How are you supposed to link to a source when it’s completely deleted?
You can see it in my profile though:
@MaximilianKohler to Ask Lemmy Ex Redditors of Lemmy what made you come on over? What happened at Reddit that you made the switch? • 5 days ago
This is the link and it looks like it’s been restored https://lemmy.world/post/17593614
I looked in the mod log https://lemmy.world/modlog/3106 and it says:
4 hours ago mod Restored Post Ex Redditors of Lemmy what made you come on over? What happened at Reddit that you made the switch? reason: restoring post as it was deleted as a result of the user getting instance banned from lemmy.ml
There is no log of why/when it was removed.
I looked up another one from https://lemmy.world/c/nostupidquestions titled “Where’s all the intelligent discussion at?”, which was removed for rule 7. I don’t agree with the removal reason, but none of this is relevant to the point of the OP. You guys are sidetracking.
“My posts keep getting deleted!”
— user looks into public info to find out why your posts might be being deleted —
Nice try, but that’s deceptive. This thread was not about my personal posts. I even gave an example of a recent thread (that I did not make) with hundreds of comments. You’re further proving my point.
It’s exceedingly bizarre how many people on Lemmy rush to defend Reddit and attack other Lemmy users for anything possible.
This thread had absolutely nothing to do with that, yet you somehow dug through months of mod logs to find the one thread that would allow to you attack me.
“You have a history of being inflammatory towards Reddit on Lemmy! This is not acceptable behavior on Lemmy!”
I’ve never seen “nazi shit” on Lemmy. The threads that have been deleted have all seemed on-topic with normal discussions taking place. The last one was a “what made you leave reddit?” thread with hundreds of comments.
It seems like docker would be heavy on resources since it installs & runs everything (mysql, nginx, etc.) numerous times (once for each container), instead of once globally. Is that wrong?
fluff
Low-quality, mindless content designed to keep mindless people infinitely scrolling.
It is still very similar. Reddit and Lemmy are now primarily fluff content. I’ve had to block dozens of fluff subs on Lemmy. And misinformation and toxic/unintelligent users are a problem here too.
Yep. This is the primary thing preventing me from contributing to, and recommending Lemmy. People confidently posting and upvoting harmful misinformation, and toxic/unintelligent people. I’ve already left Reddit and Facebook (a long time ago) for similar reasons.
It was said in the previous thread that the TPM and Microsoft account requirements can be overridden with Rufus, so anyone can update to Win 11.
It would be better if they gave their AI the task of finding alternatives to antibiotics.
even a 5-10 year out-of-date medical professional has immensely more knowledge and safe ability to recommend therapy than a layperson
I know from a plethora of experience that this is wrong. It’s also way too broad of a claim. Laypeople knowledge varies a lot. I know first-hand of some laypeople who are actually top experts in scientific/medical fields and I know of people with medical degrees who promote themselves as experts in their field yet they spread harmful misinformation that severely harmed patients and nearly got them killed.
you’re not supporting your position by citing a forum instead of the actual primary literature that supports your position
I think this is poorly worded, but I think I still understand what you were trying to say. There is no reason for me to duplicate the forum post here. There are citations there. Copying them here doesn’t make them more legitimate.
Wow, projecting hard with that comment. This is a fantastic and well-cited article, and your comment does nothing to debunk anything in it, and you end with a baseless “you’re scientifically illiterate” comment. Amazing.
I’m not as confident as you are in the evidence-based nature/abilities of doctors. See https://forum.humanmicrobiome.info/threads/doctors-are-not-systematically-updated-on-the-latest-literature-what-t.27/
as to effectively use phage therapy you must identify the organism and then select appropriate phages which will kill the bacteria, which takes time that a sick patient may not have without antibiotics
Phage cocktails, FMT, etc… Also, we should get better at speeding that process up if we fund research for it, but we’ve been instead continuing to rely on antibiotics.
We also haven’t quite figured out how to keep our immune system from eradicating the bacteriophages
Citation? I don’t recall that being a thing… phages are ubiquitous in the human body. As much or more so than bacteria. They are the natural way bacteria are kept in check.
NYT undoing years of “finish your fucking course”
WITH CITATIONS.
“finish your fucking course” is wrong, and pigheaded people that refuse to review scientific evidence and reshape their opinions accordingly do a lot of harm and make it impossible for the scientific method to work and for the scientific community to update the public when the evidence and consensus changes.
There are definitely major, and easily-abusable “features” being implemented by the major email providers, but I don’t think your statement is correct. I have a Hetzner server, and I can receive email from it (to Gmail) just fine, as long as I have SPF, DMARC, and DKIM set up. I can also create a new server with a new IP and not have any issues. The issues may arise with shared IPs/ranges that are also being used by spammers. Otherwise, if you’re planning to send bulk email you just need to warm up the IP.
