Maybe we need to teach them the kinds of things that AI can’t do, instead of the same old crap?

I’m so glad that I live in a big city, where there are hundreds of awesome small burger joints that sell better quality burgers at a much lower price.
I don’t think this about trying to close it, but rather put a big fat sticker on everything that comes out of the box, so consumers can actually make informed decisions.
I use KDE connect for remote controlling, so I never even noticed. But I can see that being an annoying loss.
I liked having both in the same app until I discovered AntennaPod, which is far superior to Spotify’s podcast manager.
Switched to Tidal when Spotify announced their reduction in artist pay, and I can highly recommend it. The interface is much better, although lacking podcasts (but luckily there are many great FOSS podcasts apps out there).
The conservative dream is the rebirth of a past that never existed
The inevitable end of capitalism
Private companies should not be able to do whatever the fuck they like. They have a very important responsibility, and they will not consider ethics over profit, unless we as a society force them to.
The way the presenters had to talk over the voice to interrupt it was awkward as hell. It also seemed to pick up on background noise from the audience often and interrupt itself. That makes it unusable in loud public settings (which imo is great, I hope it will never be socially acceptable to chat loudly with your AI in public).
Teach. I already teach and I would continue to do so even if I had enough money to retire. I just love seeing young people discover the joy of programming and 3D modeling.
I think that’s the entire point of this exercise. Thinking about what making the world better would actually mean and entail.
Yes! So glad to see developers sticking to their principles and switching for good. Every time I’m working with Blender or Godot I feel like I’m living in the future I’ve always dreamed of.
Guys, I think age is making us boring. I also personally prefer black rectangles and soft neutral lights, but I think we’re the bories.
A couple of years ago, I traveled to a tiny town in southern Greenland to visit a friend. After having been there for a week, a cruise ship suddenly appeared on the ocean and a shit ton of tourists invaded the town for just a single day. They left trash everywhere and had the locals do random plays and entertainment stunts for them, and then left before sundown. I didn’t see a single person buy something at the local bar or café (shits expensive in Greenland, so they probably waited to buy it cheaper back on the ship).
None of the locals enjoyed it, but had to endure it regularly to get a few critical dimes out of the tourists. It felt so fucking wrong and dirty. Fuck cruise ships and everyone supporting that industry.
I studied at the Technical University of Denmark and there was so much sexism towards the women there. I was oblivious to it the first year, and then got into a friend group of primarily women. It was mind-blowing hearing their stories, and of the way that university management and leaders shut them down every time they formally brought up the issue. There was (and still is) serious cover-ups of multiple rape cases.
Don’t think it’s not happening just because you don’t hear about it. People in power are actively trying to keep this quiet, and it’s working.
Scroll through the trained models on civit.ai and you’ll quickly get a feeling of the dystopian level of “prettifying” everything in the AI-generation world.
I also once searched for “brown” just to see if any models were trained to create non-white-skinned people, and got shocked when the result was filled with models trained on Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things. I don’t even want to know what those models are used for.
Before leaving Reddit, I frequently saw what was clearly LLM bots having “conversations” in the comments. Shit’s just starting to get weird.
Are there any historical examples of a technology as valuable as LLMs being effectively shut down?
I rarely enjoy schadenfreude, but I will savor every moment of the fall of Mr. Beast, the cancer of YouTube.
