It’s a blessing to be at a company where you can share that info. Looking for work now, but that’s one thing I’m looking for…a company that’s open enough to share how I’ve impacted the overall business.
How has me working here financially impacted the company? What can I do to help the company become more profitable?

Yup, start by running nvidia-smi
to get the details on your Nvidia. Then install pytorch. The rest is up to you!
Social security never made any sense to me anyway. Why not just make the economy healthy so that people can save into old age? Perhaps invest a little into financial literacy so someone doesn’t blow all their savings in Vegas when they’re 45. It’s frustrating the the government’s like, “You can’t spend that money. We don’t think you’re smart enough to plan for the future, but we’re ethical enough we’ll keep it for you and return it to you when you’re old and grouchy.”
For me, I’ve just accepted I may not be everyone’s cup of tea. And that’s fine. That doesn’t make me any less valuable.
For me the risks are a lot higher since I’ve been looking nonstop for work (in software) for the past 2-3 years. I realize I do have a strong personality: I love to get engaged in a project and really own it. Whenever I feel a potential employer/client trying to play it “cool,” I’ll often try to engage with them more and try to provide more value for them.
I do try to temper this. But at the end of the day I realize that while most people may not want someone engaged with their team, there are some companies that are desperate for people like me. And I just need to find out who they are…it just might take a while.
Oh, no, it’s definitely not a thing you age out of!
I’ve found the ADHD rewired podcast is a pretty good podcast. The hose (whose name I forget) has ADHD himself and often has tips for adults with ADHD. Anytime I listen I think I smile and don’t feel so alone.
I was also a part of a group called CHADD some time ago (Children & Adults with ADHD). You might be able to look for a chapter in your area. I also came across a remote (non-CHADD) ADHD support group on meetup…that might be a good place to look for a group.
Thanks all for the input!
Hm…I’ll consider this. I 100% believe in self-hosting, but I’ve had to compromise lately. Thanks for the suggestion.
Yup. Once you’re a $5/mo / $10/mo member, then you can profit share.
I’ve seen that site occasionally. I’ll consider it. The only downside is that I already have a medium audience so I"d have to rebuild my audience. But I’ll consider it. Thanks.
Oh, no, I don’t have to pay to submit articles. I’ve already published dozens of articles. It’s just that in order to participate in profit sharing, you need to become a member: $5/mo or $50/yr.
Yeah. It’s been a struggle these past few years. I’ve been getting creative to find any source of income, but it seems like no matter what I try I always hit a wall. But I found out I have a new contract starting soon (🤞) that will definitely cover costs for a while. This season is critical for me, and I often check my priorities often. Thanks for the encouragement.
They basically want more data points on people to sell to advertisers.
It’s big tech. That’s how big tech works.
Yup, try the #UnionizeTech tag on Twitter or Mastodon. I’m trying to raise interest.
So far there’s a call, but nobody’s taking action.
On my part, still trying to find work to afford groceries, so I don’t have much energy to spend on anything else.
Thanks! Valuable insight.
I’m definitely a proponent of using my downtime to find ways of making the job better, but I realize I need to be careful. During a fulfillment job I had during quiet times I usually cracked open the Windows PowerShell to see if I could improve processes with any programming scripts. Not sure if it’s what got me fired, but I’d imagine it didn’t help things. 😆
Everyone here is providing some great suggestions, but if I may, I’d like to challenge you to think of it a different way…
How can you set up your life so that work becomes a distraction from your phone?
Anytime I’m distracted it’s usually because I’m not engaged enough. This might mean asking my employer for more challenging work, switching jobs, or creating a side hustle to become my new job.
Yes! Especially since I’ve been under/unemployed for the past 2 years weekends are killers! If I had a job I’d be able to spend money on going out and dating (gas is super-expensive if even groceries are outside your budget). But I basically just have to sit on my hands and wait until Monday when I can continue the job search in hopes of some income.
I’ve been trying to network with successful people. I always get ignored or ostracized. And can’t figure out why. During the time I’m not rejected I’ll glean as much as I can.
Was it ever for jobs?
Been an active user for well over 5 years and not one interaction has resulted in a job.
A bunch of people acting like they were hiring, sure.
