In the short term they assume their particular selection of content will provide some inertia to your decision to move, and long term they expect all of the other options are going to do the same thing. Eventually, you’ll only be able to stream with commercials, and they’ll be back to the balance of their content being the only deciding factor.

It’s not Insane, it’s just wrong. People who can’t afford bail can generally get a bail bond, which will front the cost in exchange for the defendant paying about 10% IIRC. The thinking is that people who aren’t considered a flight risk, and aren’t a risk to the community, shouldn’t be imprisoned until there’s a guilty verdict, and putting money on the line that they lose if they don’t show up to court will encourage them to show up.
On the surface, it’s not an insane thought. It’s just… wrong. It just doesn’t really work. In practice it really does just disproportionately punish those who are already suffering, while also making it possible for the wealthy to further escape any consequences.

The thing about Trump’s whole political career that I find most incredible is that just about any one shitty thing he ever did, in isolation, would have been absolutely career ending for anyone else, or in the very least a massive, historically significant scandal. But with him? He just keeps the hits coming, so many disasters in such quick succession that none of them really have time to sink in, there’s no time to really examine them because by the time you’ve really called him out, there’s already some other stupid shit taking up the headlines.
Obama wore a tan suit, the News cycle freaked out. Obama asked for Dijon mustard on his burger, the news says he’s hopelessly out of touch with the common people. These were SCANDALS in the public eye. Trump proposes just bombing Mexico… we have to go out of our way to point out that this is actually a big deal, because next week he’ll have done something else completely insane.
Kinda depends for me, super situational. The right kind of pressure and yeah I’ll do it, something like an imminent non-negotiable deadline works for me. I’m the guy who files my taxes in the last possible week, I’ll slam out a report a night or two before it’s due.
But someone forcing me to do it? They just get flagged as an asshole who doesn’t have any authority here, even if I’ve asked them to do this, I know they’re trying to help, whatever. The existence of other candidates is not the same thing as any of them having the slimmest chance in hell of winning, and the way our cursed voting system works, they’re going to end up drawing votes away from the “major” candidate that most closely aligns with them. As a result, the “major” candidate they most oppose has one less vote they need to overcome. That means that until and unless a 3rd party candidate manages to completely overshadow one of the major political parties, which is effectively never going to happen, a 3rd party vote is just one more vote your most opposed candidate doesn’t need to beat.
And no, 3rd parties are not going to overshadow the major parties. It’s just not going to happen. Look at the absolute dogshit circus that is Trump, look at how many lifelong Republicans have vowed to never vote for him, how he’s absolutely obliterated any little shred of legitimacy the GOP had as a governing party. Now recognize that with that utterly weakened, vulnerable position, that best chance ever, no 3rd party has managed to even come close to unseating them as one of the inevitable 2 contenders. If it hasn’t happened now, it won’t happen ever, not with FPTP voting.
