Pretty decent mountain bike trails, as well, if anybody is into that sort of thing.

This is the funniest thing I have read all year. Still chortling at the thought. Thank you.
Hamas doesn’t really do stonings, so you appear to be correct. It looks like just about every execution committed by Hamas involved a firing squad, most often performed in public.
Hamas does torture and execute people for suspicion of being gay, though, even their own commanders.
Free Palestine. Fuck the IDF and Hamas.
Maybe the Tesla owners who still somehow worship or apologize for Musk, but most of them don’t deserve this at all. A lot of Tesla drivers dislike Musk and regret their purchases at this point.
They were the best electric car to buy for a long time. I don’t fault anyone for buying them in the past. If anyone buys one now, with all the information and other options we have, then maybe they’d deserve it.
FWIW, I would choose to hang out with your dogs over most other humans, too.
I’ve watched most of them as well, and Irreversible was the worst for me, somehow, even though its subject matter isn’t really as bad as some of the others.
The way too long and hyper realistic R scene is definitely a big part of it, but the movie also assaults you subconsciously throughout the whole thing. The soundtrack is full of low frequencies that are known to give people nausea and anxiety, and the constant strobe lights also just make it hard to even sit through the quiet scenes.
It is a punishing watch. Wouldn’t want to watch it again.
Crazy. I had to look it up and I found some stuff, including this old web article from 2002 that talks about this cat. The cat’s name was, Miss Greeny, apparently.
There are multiple sources, but there is no wiki page and none of the sources seem well known, so I’m having a hard time figuring out if it’s legit, or just a really good hoax.

I just wish they would address the US corporations doing the exact same thing, using algorithms to shape American public opinion.
It’s just hypocritical for them to go after TikTok for doing it, specifically, when Meta and Google are doing the same thing, and have been doing so for longer.
If they really cared about this negatively affecting US public opinion, they would make a blanket law about algorithm shaping and go after any corpo that breaks it. Sadly, that won’t happen, because the US corpos are in our politicians pockets.
I’m a leftist who dislikes capitalism, but I can admit that credit scores were a step up from the way loans were done before. The old way just made it so the banks themselves decided who they wanted to issue a loan to, and that led to a lot of racism and sexism when it came to giving the loans out.
Still, I do think we can come up with a better system than the current credit score system, and I think you have the right idea to point out it’s flaws to start the wheels turning on improving it.
They use hacks like ESP and wallhacks.
In all seriousness, though, it’s only because they always outnumber and have more resources than the person/people that they are in a shootout with. Not because they are better with firearms than an average gun owner who also trains with their firearm.
I haven’t seen Chuck Palahniuk mentioned, and he was very influential to a bunch of us millenials, I imagine. He is very good at writing about the nihilism of modern times.
Fight Club is the most popular example of his novels, and its a great read. I am also really particular to, Rant:The Oral Biography of Buster. Its such a weird story, and was one of the first books to really spark my interest in reading fiction. He has a bunch of other good novels I would recommend, like Snuff, Choke, and Lullaby.
I upvoted because Vonnegut is the GOAT and most definitely wrote some bangers after 1970, but his first well known books were published in the 1960s. So, he is pretty close to OPs cutoff for modern writers, I guess.
I do see a lot of justified Lib hate on here, but a lot of the complaints I have seen on Lemmy have the complainer claiming that they do begrudgingly vote for the dems, despite the criticism. I am not a fan of Biden at all, and I think there are tons of better candidates for the job, but I will still vote for him when I am forced to choose between that and Trump.
Just because people criticize the Dems, doesn’t mean that they completely opt out of the voting process.
You hit the nail on the head. A lot of people are just scared by the chaos and meaninglessness of life and death. It is terrifying to know that everyone you know and love is going to die and be forgotten, eventually, including yourself. Everything that has meaning to you has an expiration date, and a lot of people have trouble accepting that. So they hold on to illogical fairy tales of eternal life in paradise to deal with the existential dread.
To be honest, my uncivilized self doesn’t even know what a pine nut is, so if you say it’s a luxury item, I’ll take your word for it. In that case, I can agree that it’s a bit ridiculous and selfish. Still I wouldn’t call the cops or anything. If it was my friends or family I’d most definitely give them a hard time about it, though.
It depends on the country, but in the US I see nothing wrong with this. Wage disparity is so high here that taking items from a store owned by billionaires doesn’t feel like much of a crime. I wouldnt do it, personally, unless I was less well off financially, but I am most definitely not going to judge someone else for doing it.
A lot actually. I watch a lot of true crime documentaries. It happens the vast majority of the time. There are a few cases of mostly Christian people forgiving their families murderer, but most do not ever forgive someone for something like that.
I was going to say, isn’t the Kama Sutra a Hindu text? We have a bunch of sex positions that may have been lost to time if it weren’t for the Hindu religion.
