Wow does that feel worse? I mean ADHD or no, you’re still beholden to your neurology to some degree.
Even if isn’t a common diagnosis for the kind of thing you are.

On that point, great article by the way! I shared it with my partner and we’ve been talking about it this morning. She’s in comms, so for her social media has had all the joy sucked out of it long ago, and not it’s just a tool.
For me the internet was a big part of my socialisation, so I miss the old, more fragmented, internet much more.
StumbleUpon was incredible. I actually engaged with the larger internet, rather than mostly sticking to the kiddy pool of comment sections. It’s actually where I met my longtime partner, and now very good friend, so it had “real world” implications for me as well
I love being surprised and love learning new things. The algorithms, AI, and SEO have stripped all of that curiosity and discovery away.
I feel this as well. Everything I see or read now is accompanied by the slight suspicion that I’m reading fake content. Like is this picture or article something that another human put time and effort into, because they were trying to communicate something, or is it just generated based on what will garner eyeballs?
Username checks out.
I’m kidding, it can be good to have friends who aren’t the same as you. But seriously that sounds so TIRING. Like omfg just get a job at that point, so you can at least forget about it when you aren’t working.
When I came back from winter holidays to my job I didn’t remember ANYTHING. It was glorious
Good for you, I’d consider my online “diet” to be the same, although I do count lemmy and masto etc as social media, just not quite so pernicious as the mainstream corpo ones
Just turn it off. If this isn’t a business then you don’t need it. Free yourself :)
Rofl these are great.
Came here to suggest exactly this. I’ve been really enjoying it. It’s like a priority version of StumbleUpon from back in the day
Thanks I’ll check it out
Got any other reccos? I’m brand new to the concept
This is actually a slight improvement
It’s funny because those essays are a symptom of SEO ranking. We’d better be certain that any automation we try to employ to fix this doesn’t lead to a worse problem.
Seconded. Looking up a past event on a subject (like a band) that has had a more recent, especially “viral” event happen to it, is like wrestling a shaved bear.
Nevermind that all of the recent shit is just articles quoting eachother, adding virtually nothing of value except noise.
Came here to say this. Somehow looks brutalist in a hard sci-fi way, while also giving Eldritch vibes.
The entire game just oozes style
I remember this time. It seems wild to me that I used to simply walk down to the coffee shop, just to hang out after work or on the weekend. I remember whiling away hours and hours, often closing out the shop and having to move to another coffee shop to continue a conversation. I didn’t even have a smartphone lol it was amazing
And I’m a mad introvert, I don’t know what it was about that time and place… would be nice if young people could have that again
And gyms!
Please don’t think you have to be fair over that kind of behaviour
Yeah once I stopped buying from Amazon I realised how many of my supposed needs were just wants. Like, it’s ok if I can’t get literal brass tacks for a project this week. It’s not urgent. Nothing ever was. I didn’t need any of this shit in the 90s and I don’t need it now. I just got used to having it, and had to adjust to intentionally going without it (for ethical reasons).
Got any reading you’d recommend? All I’m finding is some links to Ernst Mach, but they aren’t very helpful in their definition of “Machism.” Is it related to machismo in any way?
