I stopped donating after the debate. I sent a donation today for 3x my usual. If they only respond to money, then withholding it is the only way to make them listen.

I for one will be happy with any candidate that can do two to three campaign appearances per day for the next four months and doesn’t have the Genocide Joe baggage. Everything else is gravy.

My town is building a shit load of apartments and townhomes. Everyone on nextdoor hates it. I can’t entirely disagree either since infrastructure is lagging far behind for all the new residents.

I’m on the border of two neighborhoods and my house is the most convenient cut through point that shaves about two miles off a typical ride to school.

The biggest reason trump won in 2016 was, apart from Clinton’s unfavorables, his sense of humor. He could throw out zingers and also be surprisingly self deprecating.

His problem is that no one was in the mood for any humor in 2020 as he had royally fucked up covid and now in 2024 he’s obviously in mental decline. He’s still good for a quip once in a while but he’s not nearly as funny now as he used to be and way less funny than he thinks he is.

Biden, meanwhile, for better or worse is exactly the same now as he was four years ago. A little more soft spoken maybe but he hasn’t changed nearly as much as Trump has.

If you don’t see progress, it’s because you’re not paying attention. Each test flight of starship has performed better than the last.

I wouldn’t be so sure if that. It’s possible, yeah, but if my theory is right they see the library sharing as the carrot to get normies to download the plex app onto their roku or apple TV.

Pivoting to a streaming only app would close off that avenue for user acquisition permanently.

I was trying to think how Plex thinks this is going to play out, knowing that this move will piss off their customer base. Then I realized, this isn’t a play for Plex’s existing customer base. This is a play for their users “friends and family” that are enjoying their customer’s shared libraries already.

Their ‘customer’ base has for many many years been developing a user base for Plex of technologically naive people with Plex apps installed who could never run their own server. If Plex knows, for example, that for every paying Plex customer there’s three other users pulling from someone’s library, that’s a huge opportunity for them to convert those users to paying customers.

Everyone that set up a Plex server and then shared it with your tech-phobic parents, cousins, friends, etc… made this possible.

I don’t like it but I can’t argue with the logic from Plex here.

I know it’s pie in the sky but in my most optimistic dreams I can see building virtual offices and having the benefits of in person interaction with coworkers while still having the benefits of a work from home situation (commute, bathrooms, comfort, etc…).

Some companies, like Nabu Casa, are already using Quest headsets in this way to conduct their meetings since they’re an entirely remote company.
