I’m with you. The infantilism of films is so depressing
A few people need to get off their horses and come up with and agree to IPv4². It’s exactly the same as IPv4 except there’s 2 more octets of address space - 48bits for addresses*. Job done. You’d see wide spread adoption in under 2 years and then we can forget about it all and move on with our lives safe from the clutches of IPv6.
I don’t give a crap that doesn’t neatly fit into 32 or 64 bit architectures. It’s more than doable at plenty fast speed and it keeps everything manageable.
Just because a DE looks sparse doesn’t means it also uses less resources. In imagine KDE would actually run well as it doesn’t need all the bells it offers and is actually a well written performant DE.
I mean I can’t pick one really. Parabol/Parabola by Tool ranks pretty high
(I told you I can’t really pick one)
My camera (Nikon Z6) has a lot of features I never use and probably never will. Bit it’s still an amazing camera that I can use to take photos with that I couldn’t with other Nikon cameras I could afford. So it doesn’t matter if it has a weird feature I don’t use when I regularly make use of a feature it does so well. Paired with an old 70-200 2.8 I have taken a lot of photos I would have previously not have dreamed possible with my older camera setups.
I would 100% recommend taking lessons. I waited 25 years to start lessons and wish I’d done it much sooner. It’s amazing how much you can improve in 6 months. And even professional touring musicians in really big bands still take lessons. It’s only theoretically possible to self teach yourself, but practically very hard, especially if you have no musical background. If nothing else it gives you a motivation to practice whatever you’ve been set the previous 1 or 2 weeks.
My FIL has a book from the 90s that’s basically an internet yellow pages.
What utter BS. Stop spreading FUD from others. A simple search would find the source code https://github.com/snapcore/
Snaps are open source, including the store.
How to do basic DIY. Do you know all the functions of your drill? Can you screw something in to wood, brick, plaster - for dab and cavity? What fixings and screw types should you use? Can you re-wire a plug? Change a tap? Wire an Ethernet connector and punchdown? Balance your books, calculate your tax, basic car maintenance…?
As a software engineer or IT person it’s easy to think we’re all so very smart, but anyone skilled in ANYTHING will know so much you don’t in their own subject.
Basically everyone is an idiot about most things.
Same experience. Walked up a hill with a body. Couldn’t get back down without dying. Gave up.
Can you recommend a mail server docker image like that? I have a hand cranked iredmail server that I’ve been babying for 5 years but I want to move it to either docker or an LXC.
A default is ok as long as there are other options. On Garuda there aren’t
I’m not as advanced a user as you so clearly are. But when I looked at Garuda they insisted you use btrfs and had no option for anything else. Well fuck that shit. I’m not touching that horror show of a file system again. Why does it have to be so opinionated to force one specific file system. Nonsense.
I’ve been using Nextcloud for years and it has never performed well but I always put that down to my disks being slow.
It has gotten quicker over time, but not hugely.
I rarely use the web interface, I just use the mobile app to sync photos from my phone then everything on my network runs over NFS. It even that was a pain to get working with permissions with NC.
Now I want to try OC. I think the reason I went with NC was because it was meant to be the new and better developed OC after a bunch of OC devs left to form NC.
I have a domain name on cloudflare DNS, Let’s Encrypt certificates that auto renew and an Nginx reverse proxy pointing at the services I host. Port forwarding through the opnsense router for https.
It’s been a journey setting it up, but its basically been unchanged for about 5 years now and works well. If I need to I can VPN in too.

I was once not spotted whilst wearing a bright fluorescent orange cycling rain jacket and standing 6’5" tall in an office of suits.
