Yep. Used to record all sorts of TV shows on my computer using them. Though they aren’t nearly as prevalent since Internet streaming has taken over. I doubt I could pick up more than 2 or 3 channels over-the-air where I live anymore.
As many have said, that’s an IR receiver. That specific model commonly came with Hauppauge TV tuner cards.

Yeah. Most chaotic packages are pre built binaries. Saves you time, and usually not problematic, but has the potential to screw you in a big way. Kinda like opening anything in Outlook in Windows.

I’ve got a couple of them. They work great. I actually got a Chromecast with Google TV as well, but have since quit using it because the Onn works better in my opinion.
