I see you’re suggesting that she shouldn’t be surprised that the fucked up culture in the fashion industry is fucked up since everyone knows it’s fucked up. But what everyone else is trying to tell you is that we should still talk about how fucked up this is, because it’s fucked up.

I think the point they’re trying to make is there are much worse things happening at a broader scale in the fashion industry than this one model being impacted by this event.

And we can also be angry about those. Not every news story has to be about the most important thing ever.

            1. Join a toxic industry that has been exploiting people for a century.
            1. Find something else to do.

I just don’t get why everyone is arguing that she should be allowed to be upset about this. This is fucking FAR from the first time the fashion industry has fucked someone over. This isn’t a situation that she was trapped in to. She has choices. She can just not be a model, or even just not be a model in the most toxic part of the industry, which is the runway. It’s like someone who walks into a kiln and then complains about how hot it is, and then expects other people to take their side. It’s a fucking kiln. All the warning signs are there. The fashion industry is a waste of human endeavor and should be razed to the ground. I’m not going to celebrate someone on the inside saying how bad things are. I fucking know how bad things are, EVERYONE DOES. It’s her fucking fault for getting into it in the first place. Hopefully she gets out before she becomes the role model for some other poor girl who gets involved in that shit. The world doesn’t need more Cindy Crawfords and Tyra Banks. I dare say the world will be a better place if we never have another one, again.

This is textbook victim blaming. What isn’t textbook is how mad you are about this. You are so mad about this, and it’s unsettling.

                This is textbook victim blaming.

I love how that is the knee-jerk reaction whenever someone says that another should be held accountable for their decision. Awe. The poor girl made a terrible life choice and has to deal with the consequences. I’m not victim blaming, I’m saying that maybe she shouldn’t have gotten into the modelling industry with the expectation that she’d be treated like a human. I guess everyone believes that with hard work and/or a pretty face, doors should just open. Sometimes the toxic industry that you’ve been warned about is just as fucking bad as everyone says. Fucking shocker. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Yeah victim blaming. Those are the words society uses for what you’re doing. In your defense of why it’s not victim blaming you are continuing to do so.

But that’s not the weird part because we all fuck up and need a reality check from time to time. I don’t care about the story so much. It’s an unfair situation and I’m glad she’s getting credit for her work and calling out a bad player (I mean doing this shit for exposure instead of money should have been the first clue, but she’s young and inexperienced and that’s not her fault).

But you, my friend, are clearly upset about this beyond reason and it makes me worry for you. I wish you luck in whatever war is raging inside yourself.

There. Are you back now? Do you understand that this is par for the fucking course? Do you understand that the fashion industry exploits young men and women all the time, doing far more fucked up things than editting their face for a photo? Jesus fucking Christ. Ya’ll motherfuckers need to learn about the enemy. It’s like being pissed off at Amazon for union busting. No fucking shit.

No. Rant and rave against it. Rally behind a flag of exploited youths. Just don’t be surprised when the industry does this shit. It’s what they’ve always done, and it’s what they will always do. They will not change. Ever. So, when someone willingly joins them, and then complains about things being just as bad as everyone already knows, we can all look at them with pity, because they were too stupid to make the right choice earlier. “This wheat thresher destroyed my legs!” Says the person who jumped into the wheat thresher, while still inside the wheat thresher.

Rally behind a flag of exploited youths.

What exactly do you think we are doing?

Just don’t be surprised when the industry does this shit. It’s what they’ve always done.

You don’t have to be surprised to find something worth talking about. We talk about unhinged politicians all the time, yet we’ve come to expect them. We talk about school shootings all the time, yet they are not a surprise any more.

So, when someone willingly joins them, and then complains about things being just as bad as everyone already knows, we can all look at them with pity, because they were too stupid to make the right choice earlier.

So your solution is for the victim here to simply leave the entire industry? Heh. Sure. Because that’ll totally pan out alright.

How many industry swaps have you done in your lifetime, bud? Because with a new industry comes new skillsets and completely different training requirements, which often takes years to complete, not to mention requiring completely different ways of thinking.

“This wheat thresher destroyed my legs!” Says the person who jumped into the wheat thresher, while still inside the wheat thresher.

“This school shooter blew my legs off”, says the foolhardy teen who had the audacity to become a student in the USA, then complain about school shooters.

This is how disconnected from reality you sound.

What exactly do you think we are doing?

You are rallying behind someone who did this to themselves. Anyone who joins that industry knows EXACTLY what they are getting into. Shit, if anyone in this thread even bothered to read the article, they’d know that she’s not even pissed she got white-ified. She’s pissed her face isn’t in the photo, so she isn’t getting the recognition. She actually says that. It’s in the article. She doesn’t give a fuck about racism. That’s all manufactured outrage from The Guardian.

We talk about unhinged politicians all the time, yet we’ve come to expect them.

Because we have the ability to do something about them. We can convince people to elect different ones next time. No one elects the fashion industry, and based on their long history of not giving a shit about the models, nothing in this thread is going to bring about change within the industry. It is diseased to the root. The only way to fix it is to destroy it.

We talk about school shootings all the time, yet they are not a surprise any more.

Yeah, because a child going to school and being shot at is exactly the same as someone choosing to become a model…

So your solution is for the victim here to simply leave the entire industry?

So, because she made a very poor decision, we should all help her be as comfortable as possible while living with it? Sorry, life sucks. Sometimes you waste a good portion of it on bad choices. She isn’t entitled to an easy ride because she fucked up. I know plenty of people with useless college degrees and a mountain of debt. She can suck it up and go work at Hooters. They look for the same thing as the fashion industry. Sure, the manager might be a little grabby, but at least no one will photoshop her face.

If my baby cousin gets hit trying to cross a busy street where many deaths have already occurred, I will still cry, even if the collision was entirely predictable. He didn’t deserve it. Knowing danger and accepting the risk does not mean you deserve the dire consequences when they occur.
