Voyager is definitely the most polished and great for those who used Apollo for Reddit. It is also very actively developed. For the Android users who do not mind the iOS aesthetic, Voyager is one of the few Lemmy clients on F-Droid.

Thunder is also a great option. I personally prefer its UX more than Voyager, but it is not quite as polished.

Proton is still a for-profit company. However, there is now the non-profit Proton Foundation that is the largest shareholder of the Proton company (not necessarily majority shareholder).

Plus, non-profits are not guaranteed to be positive. See OpenAI for example.

Curious if these function adequately in place of an android phone for a daily driver.

No. The battery life is bad, it is slow, and the camera is comparable to a 15 year old flip phone. It is fun to play with, but both the hardware and software need to improve before I could use it as my only phone.

  • Same. It may lack encryption that many look for, but I have accepted that email is too old to ever be truly secure. Most email is either coming from, or going to services provided by big tech companies anyway. I prefer an open, fully standards compliant email service over a locked down service that provides minimal additional security.
