I’m fed up with streaming platforms and want to turn an old PC into a pirate movie streaming server. It’d be nice to have a detailed guide on what services to use, how to get it to stream to devices, and how to set up a VPN. I assume a Linux distro makes the most sense but I have no platform alleigence. I’m generally pretty competent with computers but I’d like the guide to assume I know nothing about Linux, because I my only experience is with my steam deck

I’d have a little more sympathy if companies were actually hiring people and not doing absolutely everything in their power to not hire real employees. Restaurants refuse to pay people minimum wage, corporate jobs only hire contractors, airbnb, lyft, and Uber all claim their workers aren’t employees, and if someone sneezes and it sounds like the word union they’re gone. We can live in magical fantasy ecomnics land, or we can discuss reality. Harsh regulations need to stop these companies from shafting regular people and if they decide to hold the economy hostage like 2008 then we forcibly make the company public property

If you get called by telemarketers, political people, charities, etc. just hang up on them. Almost all of them require a minimum of 3 “nos” before they can end the call and some of the shittier ones aren’t even allowed to end the call. Being polite and listening to them wastes both your time and ruins their metrics
You can’t just say a legitimate argument is invalid because you think it is. That’s not what executive orders do. First and foremost they couldn’t even wipe away 10k of student loan debt via executive order without the courts striking it down, you think he can just wave a hand and make a 1.6 trillion dollar industry disappear overnight? Even if that was in his power, you need a whole plan to phase out private insurance, phase in government programs to replace them, find funding, staff, buildings, and all the other stuff. The president runs the executive branch, which is in charge of the day to day running of the country. What you’re suggesting is likely a 15 year+ program which is congress’ responsibility to arrange and fund. Also, anything accomplished via executive order can be undone just as easily by one, so if a petulant manchild ends up in office they could undo all that day 1, so it has no long term viability.
Finally, this is exactly the shit we’re irritated about. I don’t like democrats! I don’t like Biden! However, I have to sit here and defend minutia about how he’s running things, the specifics of his policy, justify inaction, and more while his primary competition suggests people inject bleach, spends more time in court than out of it, has openly declared his intention to become a dictator, and actively tried to overthrow the government. Why is this a conversation? One guy sucks and the other is an actual threat to our democracy, this shouldn’t be a debate
Obamacare wasn’t supposed to be free healthcare. It was designed to offer a government alternative to for-profit healthcare that forced private entities to compete with a group that didn’t care about profit. Universal Healthcare has never been a policy of any major party in America despite its overwhelming popularity and the fact that it has been done in the vast, vast majority of first world nations. Neither Clinton nor Biden ran on universal healthcare

I’m going to go classic and name a company that personally wronged me: Noodles & Co. I used to work in a mall and every single restaurant in the mall had a mall employee discount. It was usually a token discount between 5-10% but still it made a difference on your lunch break during an 8 hour shift. Noodles & Co. had no discounts for mall employees and one time I found a hair in my food there. It’s petty but since then I have never returned to that restaurant

However, this is kind of exactly what I’m talking about. You’re saying I can use plex, or jellyfin, or kodi, with all the opperating systems (but not?) and you say I can stream to smart TVs, are Chromecasts smart? I can follow instructions, I just don’t understand how this technology stack works together. Nobody even tells me what Linux distro to use!
